Role Summary
You will be the quarterback of the Office of the President, reporting directly to Mike Ng, President and Co-Founder of Ambience . You will manage approximately four other OOTP members and partner with the recruiting team to hire and onboard them. This is a high‑proximity, high‑trust role. You will be in meetings with Mike ~20 hours per week – shadowing, learning, absorbing context, and quickly becoming an extension of how he thinks and operates. Over time, you will be his proxy in internal and external meetings he cannot attend, his sounding board on the company's most consequential decisions, and the person who ensures nothing falls through the cracks across the OOTP's portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Quarterbacking the OOTP as an operating unit. Hold hyper‑context across every active workstream – partnerships, competitive intelligence, new market analyses, ad hoc deal support, thought leadership – and make sure the right people are working on the right problems at the right time. Set and manage OKRs for the team and drive accountability for follow‑through.
- Building and managing the team. Partner with the recruiting team to identify and hire the remaining members – special projects operators, strategic finance support – and then coach, develop, and manage them. A player‑coach who can roll up their sleeves and help someone get unstuck when the details get hard.
- Driving high‑stakes partnership initiatives. Help craft compelling joint value narratives, coordinate across internal and external stakeholders, and support the analytical work (financial modeling, market sizing, deal structuring) that underpins these relationships.
- Supporting internal AI‑first initiatives. Build and scale Ambience's company‑wide AI shared knowledge management system – making sure that institutional knowledge is captured, searchable, and continuously improving.
- Serving as Mike's right hand. Collect insights from across the company, draft and refine memos, prep materials for board meetings and keynotes, and manage the flow of decisions so Mike's time and energy are spent on the highest‑leverage problems.
What This Role Is Not
- This is not a strategy advisory role. You will own outcomes – drive things to completion, solve problems when people get stuck, and be accountable for results.
- This is not owning the product roadmap. The OOTP works on the problems that fall outside existing team boundaries – partnerships, new markets, competitive intelligence, cross‑functional initiatives – not on what the product team ships.
- This is not building your own independent organization. The team exists to extend Mike's leverage and to solve the company's highest‑priority problems.
Qualifications
- 5–10+ years of professional experience with a meaningful operating track record. Consulting and/or banking backgrounds can be a great foundation, but you must have demonstrated evidence of driving results in operating environments – not just advising on them.
- People management experience. You will be managing and developing a team from the start. You've managed before and you have a clear point of view on how to develop high‑performers.
- Comfort with financial modeling and quantitative analysis. You don't need to be a career banker, but you should be able to build a financial model, structure a deal, and think clearly about unit economics and margin.
- Strong written communication. Your memos, pre‑briefs, and decision documents should be clear, precise, and organized.
Strongly Preferred Domain Expertise
- Foundation models / hyperscalers (e.g., understanding the competitive dynamics, partnership structures, and go‑to‑market strategies of major AI infrastructure providers)
- Health systems (e.g., how large health systems buy, implement, and adopt technology; navigating the clinical, operational, and financial stakeholders)
- Adjacent healthcare markets such as revenue cycle management, payers, or life sciences (e.g., familiarity with the players, economics, and technology ecosystems in one or more of these spaces)
The Intangibles
- Mutual fit matters deeply here. This is a true partnership – you'll spend more time working together than with almost anyone else at the company.
- High internal locus of control. You believe that outcomes are within your influence.
- You think about AI in terms of compounding systems, not just efficiency gains.
- Slope over y‑intercept. We value your growth rate more than your starting point. Every six months, you should be able to look back and point to something meaningful you couldn't have done six months prior.
Compensation
The base compensation for this role is approximately $185,000–$295,000 per year , excluding equity or bonus targets.
Benefits
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage for you and your dependents
- 401(k) with a company match of up to 3% of base salary
- A remote‑friendly culture (with a San Francisco HQ) and full equipment provisioning to ensure you can work effectively from wherever you’re based.
- Parental leave to support your family needs
- Annual company‑wide off‑sites, team off‑sites and regular team lunches and all‑hands gatherings, with travel, lodging and meals covered
- Flexible time off with no annual cap, company‑wide holidays and an annual holiday shutdown from December 24–January 1 designed to support real rest and long‑term sustainability.
Life at Ambience
- Work on mission‑critical AI technology that directly improves clinicians’ day‑to‑day lives and health system financial health across some of the most complex, high‑stakes workflows in the world.
- Join a “dream team” culture where we hire exceptional people, expect exceptional outcomes and invest deeply in feedback and continuous growth.
- Operate with real ownership and accountability in an environment where there are no bystanders: If something is broken, we fix it! You will have meaningful autonomy and be expected to drive work to completion.
