Chief of Otolaryngology

Carilion Clinic and the Department of Surgery, Section of Otolaryngology in Roanoke, Virginia, are seeking a Chief of Otolaryngology. This leadership opportunity involves directing clinical, educational, and research activities for a team of nine Otolaryngologists, seven Advanced Clinical Practitioners, five Audiologists, and one audiology assistant. The role also includes planning and building a future Otolaryngology Residency Program within a clinic-based, academic setting.

• New, modern office suite offering full time audiology support, Vestibular testing, Hearing Aids, Cochlear Implant, and ABR's
• Based in the Level One 763-bed Trauma and Academic Center, Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital
• Provides comprehensive otolaryngology coverage to over one million people in a large, rural, multi-state area
• Otolaryngology services are also provided in several other Carilion hospitals and satellite locations in the region
• Clinical pathology is exceptionally broad, and otolaryngologists perform the full breadth of procedures of all levels of complexity
• Actively involved in the education of medical students, residents from multiple CC-VTC and outside training programs, allied health science students, and Virginia Tech undergraduate and graduate students

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of nine Otolaryngologists, seven Advanced Clinical Practitioner's, five Audiologists and one audiology assistant
• Direct the clinical activities for the Section
• Direct the educational activities for the Section
• Direct the research activities for the Section
• Plan and build a future Otolaryngology Residency Program
• Combine patient care, teaching of medical students and residents, and faculty development

Compensation

• Eligible to participate in the Tier 1 and Tier 2 bonus compensation programs
• Historical averages of Tier 1 and Tier 2 bonus earnings are included in the maximum salary

Requirements

• MD/DO
• Board Certification in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery
• At least 5 years of progressive otolaryngology leadership in an academic setting with an academic rank of at least Associate Professor
• Evidence of strong organizational, communication and leadership skills
• Physician leadership experience with emphasis on team building; development of integrated collaborative models of care, education, and research; and managing people and programs
• Academic appointment at VTCSOM required
• Experience with graduate medical education is preferred
