About the Role:
Reporting to the Medidata CEO, the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) is responsible for spearheading Medidata's global marketing initiatives. This leadership role will oversee Medidata's global marketing organization — spanning product marketing, operations, events, and customer advocacy — to redefine the company's market position from a data/EDC provider to an AI-powered innovation leader across the clinical trial lifecycle..
Key objectives for the CMO include:
- Championing creative excellence as the engine of Medidata's growth and global market leadership in clinical trial software.
- Driving market share growth and customer acquisition within clinical trial software/life sciences technology to support the company's revenue targets.
- Establishing a unified customer experience that spans the entire life cycle.
- Acting as a strategic partner to the CEO and Executive team, ensuring marketing strategy is tightly aligned with company-wide priorities and growth.
Responsibilities
- Leverage Medidata’s market leadership and deep AI expertise to shift global perception from a legacy EDC provider to an ecosystem-wide innovation partner. Craft a compelling narrative that positions our platform as the intelligent backbone driving the entire modern clinical trial lifecycle.
- Industry Influence & Executive Presence: Serve as the charismatic, high-energy face of Medidata globally. Possess a commanding stage presence and the proven ability to captivate audiences, inspire industry leaders, and deliver compelling keynote addresses at major global life science and tech conferences.
- Optimize Go-to-Market: Execute global GTM strategies that shorten sales cycles and improve customer acquisition efficiency.
- Champion Creative Excellence: Set a high bar for bold, distinctive creative across marketing organization, ensuring every campaign and commercial touchpoint stands out in a category and sets Medidata apart from competitors
- Scale Demand Generation: Drive predictable, metric-driven lead pipelines that align with company growth targets.
- Drive Customer Marketing & Advocacy: Lead programs that support retention, expansion, and net revenue growth among existing accounts.
- Align Sales & Marketing: Partner closely with Sales leadership to deliver enablement tools, content, and ABM programs that accelerate pipeline conversion and revenue growth.
- Accelerate Product Marketing: Lead lifecycle-focused strategies to ensure competitive differentiation and rapid adoption of new solutions.
- Manage the Flagship Event: Drive the vision and execution of Medidata's marquee global event series as the centerpiece of the company's strategy and a meaningful contributor to pipeline.
- Cultivate Talent : Recruit, develop, and lead a high-performing global marketing organization across, demand generation, product marketing, and creative functions.
- Drive Analytics & Ops: Implement robust marketing automation and analytics frameworks to ensure ROI accountability and operational efficiency, providing the Executive team clear visibility into marketing's impact on the business
Qualifications
- 15+ years of B2B marketing experience, with a proven track record of scaling marketing operations globally within high-profile enterprise SaaS or technology sectors.
- 5+ years of experience in senior marketing leadership roles, with at least 2 years of experience successfully operating as a global head of function.
- Demonstrated success scaling marketing functions within organizations reaching $100M+ in revenue, ideally with direct experience managing international communication strategies across Europe or Asia.
- Proven track record of close partnership with Sales and Product organizations to drive predictable lead generation, optimize GTM strategy, and launch complex technical products.
- High commercial acumen with a metrics-driven mindset and expert-level understanding of marketing automation, CRM integration, digital attribution frameworks, and ROI tracking.
- Experienced team builder with a history of attracting, hiring, and mentoring top-tier, high-performing marketing and creative services talent.
- Exceptional strategic communication and alignment skills, with the ability to secure internal buy-in across the Executive team.
- Strong fiscal stewardship with experience managing multi-million dollar global budgets, agency partnerships, and large-scale digital assets.
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field required; MBA preferred.
As with all roles, Medidata sets ranges based on a number of factors including function, level, candidate expertise and experience, and geographic location.
- The salary range for positions that will be physically based in the NYC Metro Area is $300,000 to 337,000.
Base pay is one part of the Total Rewards that Medidata provides to compensate and recognize employees for their work. Most sales positions are eligible for a commission on the terms of applicable plan documents, and many of Medidata's non-sales positions are eligible for annual bonuses.
