Chief Financial Officer (Executive IX)

The Chief Financial Officer for the Maryland State Department of Education provides leadership in establishing and executing the department's financial strategy, overseeing management of over $12 billion in federal and state funds, and supervising the Division of Finance. This Executive IX position reports to the State Board of Education and is responsible for budget preparation, fiscal policy implementation, and ensuring transparent and efficient financial operations across the department.

Key qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or Public Administration
• 10 years of progressively responsible experience in resource planning, budget administration, and public policy analysis
• At least 5 years of high-level managerial experience supervising finance teams and overseeing departmental operations
• Experience leading large-scale fiscal operations and guiding agencies through federal and state financial audits
• Preferred: experience in public sector budgeting for agencies with at least $2,000,000 in annual State and Federal funding
