Position Summary

As a member of the hospital's senior management team, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will participate in the financial and functional decision‑making processes necessary for the successful attainment of the hospital's mission and maintain awareness of changes in healthcare matters that could affect the hospital.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Overall financial operations of the acute‑care facility, including accounting, budgeting, audits, tax and other financial planning activities within the hospital organization and management of respective department heads.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures, short‑ and long‑range goals, objectives and plans in partnership with system management.
  • Provide financial leadership to hospital managers, directors and officers to enroll support, create ownership of goals, and encourage active participation in decisions that impact the hospital.
  • Ensure the hospital meets necessary financial regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Contribute financial expertise in the planning of new services that generate additional sources of profitable revenue.
  • Manage costs by continually seeking data that identifies opportunities and taking action to eliminate non‑value costs in conjunction with the hospital's CEO and CNO.
  • Analyze areas in planning, promote and conduct organization‑wide performance improvement activities.
  • Represent the hospital at medical staff, board of director meetings and relevant community meetings as needed.
  • Participate in the hospital's monthly operation reviews and corporate office meetings as deemed necessary.
  • Administratively lead the department and team, including budgeting, time approvals, staff evaluations and expense approvals.
  • Other duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with hospital staff and the community.
  • Demonstrated ability to cope with and manage change, maintain relationships with emotional maturity and self‑motivation.
  • Strategic oversight experience with an emphasis on financial reporting analysis and cash‑flow management.
  • Revenue cycle knowledge and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and listening skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality concerning personal, financial or medical matters.
  • Administrative leadership skills in budgeting, time approvals, staff evaluations and expense approvals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance from an accredited institution; Master's degree preferred.
  • Previous CFO‑level or equivalent experience within an acute‑care environment.
  • 5+ years of progressive managerial experience in a financial/accounting role within an acute‑care environment.
  • Critical access hospital experience preferred.
  • Experience with a proprietary healthcare system highly preferred.
  • Proficiency in written and verbal communication.
  • CPA preferred.
