Job Overview
The Hotel Engineering Manager will lead all engineering, maintenance, and repair activities at AC Hotel Oakland Downtown and Residence Inn Oakland Downtown.
Responsibilities
- Direct and oversee all engineering, maintenance, and repair activities throughout the hotel.
- Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive preventative maintenance program for guestrooms, public areas, back‑of‑house spaces, equipment, and building systems.
- Supervise, train, coach, and evaluate Engineering Department associates.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, OSHA, fire life safety, and brand standards.
- Maintain operational knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, life safety, and building automation systems.
- Respond to emergency situations involving equipment failures, utility interruptions, or safety concerns.
- Manage departmental budgets, expenses, inventories, and purchasing activities.
- Coordinate and oversee outside contractors, service providers, and vendor relationships.
- Conduct routine inspections of guestrooms, public spaces, grounds, and mechanical areas to identify maintenance needs and ensure quality standards.
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, preventative maintenance activities, inspections, warranties, permits, and equipment inventories.
- Participate in capital planning and property improvement projects.
- Ensure work orders are completed in a timely manner and according to established procedures.
- Support hotel operations by maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for guests and associates.
- Participate in manager‑on‑duty coverage and emergency response activities as required.
- Perform all other duties deemed necessary by management.
Qualifications
- Minimum three (3) years of hotel engineering or facilities maintenance experience, with supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and life safety systems.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals, and schematics.
- Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and maintenance management systems.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency call‑ins.
- Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, bend, stoop, and lift or move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Valid driver's license preferred.
Compensation
$95,000 - $105,000
