Chief Engineer Position Outline

  • The Chief Engineer ensures the hotel's excellent working order and works to meet all operational standards related to the Engineering Department.
  • Conduct walk-throughs and assessments of the hotel structure, systems, and equipment maintenance and operation.
  • The Chief Engineer is responsible for the Rooms and Public Area Preventive Maintenance Program and consistently keeps updated records.
  • Works with the entire hotel management team and property general manager.
  • Hire, train, supervise, coach, and counsel associates.
  • The Chief Engineer ensures grounds are maintained to provide a great arrival experience.
  • Implement the hotel's safety and emergency policies and procedures (e.g., evacuations, first aid, etc.), including removing all safety hazards and using safe lifting techniques.

Job Requirements

Chief Engineer Requirements

  • Previous hotel engineering experience, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, commercial kitchens, and general building construction, is required.
  • Vocational training, certification, and/or apprenticeship in one or more areas; state certification or licensure where required.
  • Chief Engineer candidates must be able to read and interpret drawings, diagrams, and blueprints. Read and understand test equipment and measuring devices.
  • Strong business communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Chief Engineer candidates must be flexible to work varying schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Someone who enjoys working as and being part of a team that provides great experiences for our Guests!
  • Must be able to obtain an FLSD certificate.
  • Must be hands-on.

Compensation:

The anticipated compensation range for the position for applicants working in NYC is $85K annually (depending on property). The annual salary offered to a successful candidate will depend on several factors, including but not limited to years of experience within the job, years of experience within the required industry, education, etc.
