Role Description:
The Chief Engineer, with experience in oil/chemical tankers (LNG/LPG experience will give more preference) with suitable international maritime experience and roles, will lead and oversee all engineering-related inspections and investigations, preparation of suitable reports, and oversee technical activities for vessels and maritime projects within the Houston and \"U.S.\" Tri-State region. This full-time, on-site role is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant performance of all mechanical, electrical, and auxiliary systems, including planning and executing preventive and corrective maintenance. The Chief Engineer will manage engineering personnel, supervise inspections, maintain technical documentation, and coordinate closely with operations, survey, and consulting teams to support project delivery. Daily tasks include troubleshooting equipment issues, monitoring performance metrics, optimizing fuel and energy usage, and implementing safety and environmental protection measures consistent with \"U.S.\" and international regulations. The role also involves participating in incident investigations, design reviews, technical reporting, and providing expert input to clients on engineering-related matters.
Qualifications
- Strong marine engineering expertise including vessel propulsion systems, auxiliary machinery, and shipboard electrical systems, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
- Demonstrated experience in maintenance planning, reliability engineering, and asset management for maritime equipment, including preventive and corrective maintenance programs.
- Knowledge of \"U.S.\" maritime regulations (preferred), international shipping and safety standards (MO, SOLAS, MARPOL), and class society requirements, with proven compliance management skills.
- Chief Engineer experience on VLCCs/AAFRAMAX/Chemical tanker is a must, and an LNG/LPG background will assist in meeting the criteria.
- Background in technical reporting, root cause analysis, and design assessment, including the ability to prepare clear documentation, engineering evaluations, and incident investigation reports.
- Effective leadership and team management capabilities, including supervising engineering crews, coordinating with cross-functional teams, and mentoring less-experienced personnel.
- Strong safety mindset and familiarity with risk assessment, emergency response procedures, and environmental protection practices in maritime operations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with clients, surveyors, regulators, and internal stakeholders in a professional and collaborative manner.
- Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering and approved STCW certifications/courses.
