Chief Engineer

Chief Engineer Position Summary We are seeking an experienced Chief Engineer to oversee the operation, maintenance, safety, and reliability of a Class A commercial office property. This hands‑on leadership role supervises the building engineering team, manages critical building systems, coordinates vendors and contractors, and works closely with Property Management to ensure a safe, efficient, and professional building environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise building engineering staff, including scheduling, training, work assignments, and performance.
• Oversee daily operation and maintenance of HVAC, chillers, cooling towers, electrical, plumbing, BAS/controls, generators, elevators, lighting, and fire/life‑safety systems.
• Manage preventive maintenance programs, inspections, work orders, repairs, and equipment documentation.
• Troubleshoot equipment issues and respond to outages, leaks, alarms, and building emergencies.
• Ensure customer comfort and respond promptly to building service requests.
• Oversee technical vendors and contractors and monitor work for quality, safety, and contract compliance.
• Assist with capital projects, equipment replacements, budgets, proposals, and long‑term building improvements.
• Monitor building performance and identify energy and water conservation opportunities.
• Ensure compliance with applicable safety requirements, inspections, permits, and emergency procedures.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, equipment histories, operating logs, and other engineering documentation.

Qualifications

• 7–10 years of commercial building engineering experience, preferably in Class A office or a comparable commercial environment.
• 3–5 years of supervisory or lead engineering experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC/central plant systems, chillers, cooling towers, electrical distribution, plumbing, BAS/controls, emergency power, and fire/life‑safety systems.
• Experience managing preventive maintenance programs, engineering teams, vendors, and contractors.
• Experience with capital projects, budgeting, and major equipment repairs or replacements.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and architectural drawings.
• Strong troubleshooting, leadership, communication, organizational, and customer‑service skills.
• EPA Universal Certification and applicable technical licenses/certifications preferred.
• BOMI SMA/SMT or comparable building operations credentials are a plus.
