Chief EngineerExperienced Chief Engineers are responsible for overseeing the Assistant Chief Engineer and Oiler. The Chief Engineer and their team are responsible for maintaining the dredging machinery as well as the dredge's support equipment machinery, including the tender boats, anchor barges, and crane barge.Essential functions (This is not all-inclusive):Upholds the Company's commitment to an injury-free workplace; leads and models safe work practicesFollows all safety rules and regulations as well as all company policies and proceduresWorks safely around machinery; observes and instructs others in proper equipment use; uses/wears all required PPEEnsures team members are provided a safe work environment and are knowledgeable of safe work practices and policies Directly supervises the day-to-day engine room operations, crew operations, and maintenance on the dredgeSchedules engine room crews and shifts, and promptly reports to the HR department regarding disciplinary concerns, including poor work performances, absenteeism, and tardinessOversees and manages activities of vendor repair crews on the dredgeManages the computer-based vessel level preventive maintenance management program, including maintenance and inventory documentation and record-keeping (training provided)Assigns and supervises all activities of engine room crew, including Booster OperatorsEnsures proper orientation, familiarization, and mentoring for new crew members. Evaluates the performance of subordinates and recognizes, develops, and promotes talented crewmembersMentors all crewmembers and promotes safety awareness in all operations.

Leads pre-shift meetings, Job Safety Analyses, and safety walks on the dredge and attendant vesselsCoordinates vessel maintenance operations with Captain and Project Management staff; coordinates and communicates equipment issues with the Dredge and Maintenance ManagersConducts emergency drills as required by the US Coast Guard and keeps accurate recordsEnsures the vessel meets all regulatory requirements and is properly prepared for agency inspectionsMinimum QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalentFive or more years of experience in marine engineering, including supervisory experience; dredging experience is a plusExcellent safety, mechanical, and leadership skillsShipyard and/or vendor coordination experience is requiredWorking knowledge of electrical systems i.e. motor controls, DC drives, circuits, etc.USCG Licensed Chief Engineer of steam and/or motor vessels preferredProficient computer skills and maintaining information databasesDemonstrated ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writingTrained in Lock/Out Tag Out Procedures, Fall Arrest, Confined Space, and Ladder Safety (on-the-job training also provided in these areas)Ability to meet physical requirements of the position as outlined in the Functional Job DescriptionMust be able to successfully pass all pre-employment testing (drug test, fit test) in addition to random drug and alcohol testingAuthorized to work in the US, this position is not eligible for VISA sponsorship.Candidates who do not meet the minimum requirements will not be considered.Encore Dredging Partners, LLC is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
