Chief Engineer

Chief EngineerThe Chief Engineer is responsible for the management and daily leadership of the engineering team with a focus on safely, efficiently, and effectively operating building machinery and systems. The Chief Engineer will implement and manage all aspects of the fire/life safety, mechanical (HVAC, plumbing, controls), and electrical preventive maintenance programs.Duties and ResponsibilitiesSupervise and manage engineers including training and personal developmentOversee the maintenance and continuous operation of all building systems including: fire/life safety, mechanical (HVAC, plumbing) electrical (lighting, generators, primary switch gear, and building automation systems)Identify maintenance objectives and incorporate those objectives into a documented plan that includes all necessary preventive, corrective and/or reliability maintenance proceduresHas in-depth knowledge of all building systems and maintenance processesUnderstands aspects of construction planning and executionExecutes equipment inspection and monitoring programsImplements maintenance best practices to improve overall mechanical equipment uptimeContinuously evaluates current maintenance, operations and reliability methods and implements changes to enhance effectivenessIdentify safety hazards within the building and incorporate the remediation of such hazards to ensure that the building's staff and occupants work in a safe environment.Responsible for overseeing the activities of contractors working within the buildingResponsible for keeping records of buildings rounds, meter readings, logs and data sheets.Manage contracted maintenance staff and vendorsResponsible for ordering all supplies and materialsPerforms additional job duties as requested.Qualifications10 years engineering work experience, including customer service, leadership and supervisory experienceCity of Chicago Stationary Engineers licenseDemonstrated technical expertise in facility related systemsWorking knowledge of computer applications including Microsoft Office, CMMS, and building automation systemsDemonstrated verbal/written communication skillsWork Hours and Shift: 40 hours per week; Monday-Friday 7:00am to 3:00pmLocation: 1400 S DuSable Lake Shore Drive Chicago, IL 60605Pay Range: $102,000 - $104,000/AnnuallyThe Field Museum is an equal-opportunity employer.
