Chief Building Engineer - San Antonio, TX

As a CBRE Chief Building Engineer, you will perform complex preventive maintenance and corrective repairs of buildings, industrial systems, vehicles, equipment, and grounds. This position is part of the Engineering and Technical Services job function and is responsible for providing support, preventive maintenance, and repairs on equipment and systems.

What You’ll Do

• Follow all applicable codes, regulations, governmental agency, and company directives related to building operations and work safety.
• Lead operations, assign work orders, and provide technical and procedural training of coworkers and subcontractors.
• Arrange for subcontractors as needed.
• Consult with clients to schedule preventive maintenance during downtime to reduce business interruption and inconvenience.
• Plan a preventive maintenance program to ensure building machinery and systems meet or exceed their rated life.
• Check building systems including fire alarms, HVAC, and plumbing to ensure equipment operates within design capabilities and meets client‑specified environmental conditions.
• Oversee and inspect work performed by engineering staff to confirm completeness, proper functioning of equipment, and client space in great working condition.
• Respond to emergency situations and request help when needed.
• Apply advanced knowledge to develop new, better methods for achieving individual and department objectives.
• Showcase expertise in your discipline and in-depth knowledge of other disciplines within the organization.
• Coach others to develop in‑depth knowledge and expertise in most or all areas within the function.
• Lead by example and model behaviors consistent with CBRE RISE values.

What You’ll Need

• High School Diploma, GED, or trade school diploma with 5–8 years of job‑related experience. A combination of experience and education will also be considered.
• Prior shift manager or supervisory experience preferred.
• Meet physical requirements: stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs or ladders, and lifting or carrying loads of 50 pounds or more.
• An innovative mindset that develops methods beyond existing solutions.
• Ability to solve unique problems with standard and innovative solutions that impact the business.
• In‑depth knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Expert organizational skills with an advanced inquisitive mindset.
• Highly sophisticated math skills, including calculating percentages, fractions, and other financial‑related figures.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and eight or more years of experience in electrical systems, refrigeration, or HVAC.
• Universal CFC certification required.
• Additional certification in electrical, mechanical, HVAC and refrigeration systems, process controls, mechanical power transmissions, painting, plumbing, carpentry, or engine repair as required by local or state jurisdiction.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational and analytical skills.
• Ability to provide efficient, timely, reliable, and courteous service to customers.
• Ability to present information effectively.
• Knowledge of financial terms and principles and ability to understand operating budgets.
• Ability to calculate intermediate figures such as percentages, discounts, and commissions.
• Intermediate analytical and quantitative skills.
• Proficiency with a personal computer and basic Microsoft Office Outlook skills.
• Physical requirements: stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs or ladders, and lifting or carrying heavy loads of 50 pounds or more.

• Complete all required and assigned HSE training at a satisfactory level.
• Follow all activity policies and procedures, including all HSE‑related requirements at all times.
• Participate in all HSE‑related programs and activities, including incident investigations, interviews, auditing, and assessment.
• Report conditions that could lead to an accident or injury, and stop work if required.
