About Fact Base
Fact Base was founded on the vision of building the order-and-procurement platform where machine shops take center stage, to help Japanese and global manufacturing lead the world again. Our flagship product ZUMEN is a drawing-centric manufacturing SaaS that lets small and mid-sized manufacturers manage drawings and production information in one cloud workspace.
Founded in 2022, we have grown to approximately 285 employees (June 2026) and raised JPY 900 million (Jan 2024), a JPY 1.45 billion Series B (Feb 2025) and a JPY 4.4 billion Series C (Nov 2025). In 2025 we became the first Japanese company to receive investment from Insight Partners, one of the world's leading B2B SaaS investors. We have subsidiaries in North America, Europe and Asia, and our leadership comes from Keyence, Accenture, Johnson & Johnson, Sapporo Breweries and SMBC Nikko Securities, among others.
Why we are hiring
Our North America region today is FACTBASE USA INC. (Schaumburg, Illinois). We will open locations across the U.S., a Mexican entity is being established, and Canada is planned next; the region is expected to exceed 100 people within a few years. Finance is currently run remotely from Japan with local CPA firms. We are establishing a regional finance function and are looking for the person who will own it.
Responsibilities
- Monthly, quarterly and annual close for each North American entity (U.S. GAAP)
- Regional consolidation and reporting to headquarters
- Federal, state and local tax compliance and transfer pricing, with external advisors
- Internal controls and accounting policies
- Audit responses
- Cash management and payment approvals
- Management of outsourced CPA, tax and payroll providers
- Budgeting and financial analysis for the Country Manager; setup of new entities
- Hiring and leading finance staff (one to start)
Scope of change: duties as determined by the company.
What makes this role attractive
- Build a regional finance function from 0 to 1 and own it as the region grows past 100 people and into new states and countries
- Multi-entity, cross-border scope: consolidation, transfer pricing, new-entity setup and a Japanese parent company
- Direct line to the Country Manager and close work with the CFO
Organization and reporting structure
Direct report: North America Country Manager, who sets your priorities and owns your performance evaluation and compensation decisions.
Dotted line: Head of Accounting at Tokyo headquarters, for standard processes and policies, professional guidance and approval of key external contracts; regular reporting and consultation on accounting and finance matters is expected.
Founding member: you build the North America region accounting and finance function and team (one staff member to start) from the ground up and own it for the whole region. You start on local outsourced providers and headquarters support, and over time build a function that stands on its own. In the first year, expect to step outside your specialty — general affairs, office setup, compliance and ad-hoc projects are part of the job.
Requirements
Must-have
- Able to be the accountable finance owner for the region: full monthly close, multi-entity consolidation, building a controls framework, leading audit responses
- Practical knowledge of U.S. GAAP and federal and multi-state tax compliance; experience managing external CPA, tax or payroll providers
- Experience in a subsidiary of a foreign parent, a startup or a fast-growing company
- Advanced business-level English or above
Nice-to-have
- Japanese language ability
- CPA or equivalent
- Experience with Mexican or Canadian entities, or with a Japanese parent company
- SaaS revenue recognition (ASC 606)
Who we are looking for
- Enjoys building processes from zero rather than operating ones that already exist
- Makes progress without a complete playbook and takes ownership of outcomes, not just tasks
- Hands-on by default: does the work as well as manages it during the build phase
- Communicates proactively across time zones and cultures, including with a Japanese headquarters
Tools
- Slack, Google Workspace
- Accounting: QuickBooks (current; may change as the region grows)
