Charge Nurse (RN) - Pediatric Emergency Department

The Role

In this Charge Nurse position, you serve as both a clinical leader and operational anchor within a specialized Pediatric Emergency Unit that is fully separate from the adult ED. This structure allows for focused, age‑appropriate emergency care and a highly collaborative pediatric‑centered care model.

Responsibilities

• Providing leadership for nursing staff within the Pediatric Emergency Department
• Acting as a resource and mentor to nurses, offering guidance on complex pediatric cases and promoting clinical best practices
• Coordinating patient flow, staffing assignments, and acuity management in a dynamic, high‑volume environment
• Collaborating closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure seamless care delivery
• Supporting escalation pathways and participating in critical response situations for pediatric patients
• Promoting adherence to evidence‑based care standards and contributing to a culture of clinical excellence and safety

Minimum Requirements

• Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing or currently enrolled in an accredited nursing BSN/MSN program that will be completed within 5 years of hire.
• Experience: RN Clinician 2 or higher who has been employed on the unit for 6 months or has had previous Charge Nurse experience from another unit/organization.
• Licensure: Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia; American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.

Physical Demands

Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently traveling and bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; attention to detail and ability to write legibly; ability to lift/push/pull 20‑50 lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.

Pay range: $46.08 - $61.00 hourly. Compensation will be determined by the selected candidate’s qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
