Job Summary

Responsibilities

  • Work under the supervision of the surgeon and RN.
  • Assist surgical team during operative procedures by arranging and inventorying sterile set‑up of instruments, equipment and supplies for surgical cases and passing items to surgeons and nurses as needed.
  • Assist in preparing and moving patients and sterilizing and cleaning instruments, equipment and rooms.
  • Previous OR experience with Ortho/Sports Medicine cases highly preferred.
  • One year of OR experience required.

Day‑to‑Day Duties

  • Scrub on all cases.
  • Surgical cases include orthopedic, total joint replacements (hips, shoulders, knees, ankles), ortho spine and sports medicine.
  • Provide breaks and/or additional supplies and sterile instruments as needed during operations.
  • Assist with room turnover and restocking for next day’s cases.
  • Maintain sterile field during procedures.
  • Hand instruments to surgeons, anticipating their needs.
  • Maintain and update preference cards.

Physical Requirements

Medium work – exert up to 50 lbs force occasionally, up to 20 lbs frequently, and up to 10 lbs constantly.

Requirements

  • Basic computer skills required.
  • One year of experience in a surgical setting preferred.
  • Experience in a specialty field preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of an approved Surgical Technician program required.
  • BLS from the American Heart Association required.
  • Current registration with the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) as a surgical technologist required for associates working in Colorado.
  • Certification in Surgical Technology from the National Board Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or Certification as a Tech in Surgery (CST) from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) required.

Schedule

  • 40 hours per week, variable shifts based on volume and unit needs.
  • Monday through Friday; no call, no nights, no weekends.
  • Late stays scheduled in advance; minimum 8 late stays in 6 weeks.

Where You’ll Work

The surgery department at OrthoColorado Hospital has 11 pre‑op beds, eight OR suites, ten PACU bays, 48 inpatient beds and specializes in orthopedic surgery. We operate Monday through Friday with no on‑call, no nights, and no weekends. The hospital provides advanced orthopedic and spine care with an unsurpassed level of service to help patients achieve the best quality of life.

Pay Range

$26.37 - $44.41 per hour
