Overview
Responsible for administering anesthesia, monitoring patients’ vital signs, and overseeing patient recovery from anesthesia. Assist with anesthesia-related medical and emergency situations such as airway maintenance and pulmonary ventilation. Required to comply with rules and regulations of all applicable federal, state, and local laws as well as all KRMC policies and Medical Staff rules and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Maintain excellence in airway management and familiarity with the usage of airway adjuncts (e.g., Glidescope, fiberoptic scope, ILMA).
- Work within delineated clinical privileges and the State of Nebraska’s scope of practice. Maintain all required continuing education credits, credentialing, ACLS, professional licensure, payer enrollment, and completion of all required employer/hospital training (Computer Based Learning) on time.
- Participate in pre-anesthetic preparation and evaluation, including preparing anesthesia equipment and supplies anticipated for the procedure.
- Perform a pre-anesthetic assessment and develop a patient-specific anesthesia plan of care for each patient and procedure. The plan is formulated from the pre-surgical assessment and reviewed with the attending anesthesiologist for patients with multiple confounding medical problems or when anesthesia is anticipated to be complex or challenging.
- Execute the patient-specific plan for anesthesia care, including:
- Maintain appropriate confidentiality of patient information at all times.
- Review informed consent documentation and identify the surgical site in accordance with departmental and regulatory compliance standards; participate in the surgical pause in the OR with the entire surgical team.
- Use appropriate non-invasive and invasive monitoring devices for continuous evaluation of the patient’s physical status, and apply or insert them as needed.
- Administer anesthetics, adjuvants, and fluids necessary to manage the anesthetic.
- Implement, monitor, and adjust the patient’s physiologic condition as appropriate for the type of anesthesia and the patient’s specific needs.
- Monitor the patient’s physical response to the anesthetic and initiate corrective measures.
- Monitor airway, oxygenation and pulmonary status; monitor cardiovascular status.
- Monitor temperature and neuromuscular function.
- Assess positioning and make changes as needed for patient safety.
- Provide emergence and recovery from anesthesia.
- Determine the need for additional laboratory tests and provide resuscitative care as necessary.
- Transfer responsibility for perioperative and postoperative care to other qualified providers to ensure continuity of care and patient safety.
- Communicate appropriately with all individuals involved in the peri-operative and postoperative care of the patient.
- Document transfer of care and ensure completion of relevant documentation when moving the patient from intraoperative to postoperative care.
- Provide acute and chronic postoperative pain management modalities. Select medications, fluids, and ventilatory support necessary to facilitate recovery from anesthesia.
- Provide post-anesthesia follow-up evaluation and care as needed.
Education/Experience
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Post-graduate degree in Nurse Anesthesia
- Current RN licensure in the state of Nebraska
- Current CRNA licensure in the state of Nebraska.
- Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification.
