Surgical TechnologistTownsen Memorial Health System is looking for a Full-Time Surgical Technologist to join our team! The Surgical Technologist is responsible for scrubbing in and assisting the physician for all cases. After completion of each case, the surgical technologist will be on standby for sterile technician needs which includes the following aspects of sterile processing to include decontamination, preparation packaging sterilization and sterile storage while adhering to department policies and procedures.Essential Functions:Works with specialty surgical instrumentation, troubleshoots problems and repairsAssimilates and communicates information received from various sources that is in an accurate, timely, and effective mannerReviews instrumentation needs, manages inventory and stock operating par levels for stored instrumentation and emergency cartsIdentifies and follows manufacturers instructions to sort, disassemble, decontaminate, rinse and disinfect instrumentation, flexible scopes, equipmentUtilizes count sheets consistently to correctly assemble, protect, wrap containerize and/or peel pack and label instrumentationsPrepares carts from pick list and delivers instrumentation to as needed to the operating roomMakes rounds through the operating rooms consistently and confirms instrumentation needs are metFacilitates room turnovers, adheres to the proper handling of garbage, linen, and biohazardous materialsFollows manufacturers recommendations for sterilization methods and selects appropriate sterilization methodsDocuments and verifies sterilization loads and biological test properly to determine the efficacy of the sterilization processRecords utilization of instrumentation tracking systemHandles sterile products and ensures stock is placed in the proper locationIdentifies and inspects instruments for cleanliness and functionalityAssembles and prepares instrumentation for sterilizationOrganizes the workflow, problem solves, and manages multiple ongoing priorities with minimal supervisionParticipates in staff and self-development meetings/in services and provide guidance and training to other staff as neededProtects patient and family privacy rights and maintains confidentiality of patient recordsMaintains awareness of safety hazards and maintains a clean and orderly work areaMaintains professional competences and certificationsPerforms other related duties as assignedKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Knowledge of medical terminologyDemonstrates strong knowledge of sterile technique related to operating room preparation and proceduresDemonstrates proficiency in medical and surgical technologyDemonstrates strong knowledge of operating equipment and suppliesDemonstrates leadership skillsEducation and Experience:Graduate from an accredited educational program for surgical technologistsCertified as a surgical technologist by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT); or successful completion of an approved training program for surgical technology in the United States Armed Forces (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard) or the United States Public Health ServiceTwo (2) years of surgical technology experience in a healthcare facilityBasic Life Support (BLS) certifiedBenefits:3 medical plans2 dental plans2 vision plansEmployee assistance programShort and long term disability plansBasic life and voluntary insurance plans with AD&D401(k) with a 2-year vestingPTO + holidaysCompensation to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
