Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

Position Summary

We are seeking a compassionate and dependable Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) to provide hands-on care and support to patients/residents in a healthcare setting. The CNA will assist with activities of daily living, monitor and document patient status, support nursing staff with patient care, and maintain a safe, clean, and comfortable environment.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Assist patients/residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including:
  • Transfers and ambulation
  • Eating and drinking
  • Bathing and dressing
  • Toileting and personal hygiene
  • Positioning and comfort measures
  • Follow established instructions and procedures for exercises, mobility activities, and use of appropriate devices to help maintain strength, flexibility, and mobility.
  • Assist licensed nursing staff with basic patient care procedures, including:
  • Suppositories and enemas
  • Treatments
  • Post-surgical care
  • Post-mortem care
  • Obtain and accurately document vital signs, including temperature, pulse, and respirations.
  • Collect and handle specimens such as urine, sputum, and stool according to established procedures.
  • Monitor and document patient intake and output.
  • Accurately complete patient care documentation, worksheets, and other required records.
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to patient requests and call lights while providing respectful, compassionate care.
  • Assist with meals, including transporting patients to dining areas, communicating meal selections, serving meals, and providing assistance with eating as needed.
  • Change bedding, linens, and other patient-care items and maintain clean, sanitary, and orderly patient areas.
  • Observe and report changes in a patient's physical or mental condition to licensed nursing staff.
  • Respond appropriately during emergency situations and promptly notify and assist licensed nursing staff in accordance with established procedures.
  • Transport patients to appointments or other designated areas as required.
  • Perform basic clerical duties, such as answering phones, filing, and completing routine documentation, as needed.
  • Follow all applicable healthcare regulations, facility policies, safety procedures, and standards of patient care.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and team-based processes designed to improve patient safety, care, and outcomes.
  • Maintain professional communication and establish positive working relationships with patients, families, nurses, physicians, and other healthcare team members.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Basic principles and practices of nursing assistant and direct patient care.
  • Patient safety, infection prevention, and hygiene practices.
  • Proper use of medical equipment and patient-care devices.
  • Procedures for maintaining a safe, clean, orderly, and therapeutic environment.
  • Applicable state regulations and healthcare standards related to CNA responsibilities.
  • Basic medical terminology and patient-care documentation.

Skills in:

  • Providing safe and compassionate hands-on patient care.
  • Assisting with ADLs, mobility, transfers, and positioning.
  • Obtaining and accurately recording vital signs.
  • Using and maintaining basic medical equipment.
  • Accurately documenting patient care and maintaining records.
  • Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Recognizing and reporting changes in patient condition.
  • Working effectively as part of a healthcare team.

Ability to:

  • Provide respectful and compassionate care to patients with varying levels of physical and medical needs.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Remain calm and respond appropriately during emergency situations.
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
  • Safely perform physical tasks associated with patient care, including standing, walking, lifting, transferring, and repositioning patients.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Active Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in the State of Arizona.
  • Ability to provide proof of current certification as required.
  • Ability to meet applicable facility and employment requirements.
  • Strong communication, dependability, teamwork, and patient-care skills.

Work Environment

This position involves direct patient care in a healthcare environment. The CNA may work with patients who require assistance with mobility, personal care, and activities of daily living. The position may require prolonged periods of standing and walking, as well as assisting with lifting, transferring, and repositioning patients.
