Job Description:

The Certified Nursing Assistant works directly under the supervision of the Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and performs duties in a relation to the personal needs of the resident, care of supplies and equipment, and maintaining the cleanliness, comfort and safety of the resident in his/her environment.

Reports To: Charge Nurse, Supervisor and Director of Nursing Services (DNS)

Responsibilities:
  • Provides or assists with bed bath, tub bath, whirlpool and showers. (Supervises safety of same.)
  • Provides personal grooming: i.e. hair, nails, shaving, personal clothing, mouth care, perineal care.
  • Prepares laundry for pick-up and return.
  • Checks resident's body for skin care: i.e. rash, any discoloration or edema.
  • Feeding and Assisting with Feeding (when necessary)
  • Provides calm, pleasant environment.
  • Engages in cluster feeding while seated.
  • Monitors daily intake and keeps nurses informed.
  • Records food intake on Nutrition Work Sheet.
  • Making Beds
  • Uses recommended amount of linen and diapers.
  • Disposes of linen in proper manner.
  • Properly utilizes clean and dirty linen carts.
  • Secures call bells to bed.
  • Beds are made in proper manner.
  • Knowledgeable in procedure for linen precaution.
Safety of Residents:
  • Make sure, if restraint is used, that it was indicated on assignment and the proper type is applied.
  • Restraints are checked at the beginning and end of each shift.
  • Supervises ambulation of resident when needed.
  • Proper attention is given that side rails are up on bed when needed.
  • Completes dining room duty as posted by charge nurse.
  • Is alert for spills on floor.
  • Answers call bells as soon as possible.
  • Makes rounds frequently.
  • Reports need for repair and safety matters to charge nurse

License:

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) (Required)
  • CPR (Preferred)
