Certified Coder – Cardiology Clinic (Avondale)
The Certified Coder will process medical claim information through data entry in the Practice Management System, research and correct data entry errors using various electronic health record systems, and apply CPT and ICD‑10 coding expertise. The role supports accurate billing and adheres to the organization’s policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Enter patient billing data from source documents into the Practice Management (PM) system using CPT and ICD‑10 codes.
- Determine the appropriate data format for each patient encounter within the PM system.
- Analyze, research, and correct data entry errors using the PM system, electronic medical record systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Balance daily batches and reports; research and correct discrepancies.
- Prioritize daily processing tasks based on departmental and organizational objectives.
- Stay current on billing guidelines, reimbursement rules, and regulations from government and private insurance carriers.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of financial and patient records.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- CPC certification required.
- Minimum of three years’ experience in cardiology coding, medical office/physician coding procedures, and chart review/auditing.
- Associate’s degree preferred.
- Knowledge of AthenaOne and PM/EHR systems preferred.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills with peers and subordinates at all levels.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Experience with Practice Management systems.
- Strong problem‑solving ability and clear communication of solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and protect operations.
- Team‑oriented work style and readiness for alertness and safety requirements.
