Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant (CAA) – Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital

Job Summary

Sign‑on bonus: $50,000 available at this location for new graduates and external candidates. The Certified Anesthesiology Assistant provides perioperative management of patients where anesthesia services are indicated. Duties include pre‑operative, intra‑operative and post‑operative evaluation, administer anesthetics under a written practice protocol, assist with anesthesia equipment, transport of patients, maintain patient records, participate in teaching and continuing education, and provide resuscitative care as needed.

Responsibilities

• Pre‑operative evaluation and intra‑operative management of patients requiring anesthesia
• Administer appropriate anesthetics within the framework of a written practice protocol
• Assist anesthesia machines and related equipment; assist in patient transport
• Maintain adequate patient records
• Participate in teaching activities and continuing education programs
• Demonstrate a high level of professionalism and provide resuscitative care when indicated

Minimum Training and Education

• Completion of an Anesthesiologist Assistant program certified by the National Commission for Certification of Anesthesiologist Assistants
• Current certification from an agency recognized by the South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners and the Anesthesiologist’s Assistant Committee
• Evidence of licensure or eligibility to obtain licensure by the South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners

Licensure, Certifications, Registrations

• Certified AA with current license to practice or eligibility to obtain practice in South Carolina
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association
• Current Advanced Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association

Physical Requirements

Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, and climbing stairs. Ability to work indoors and outdoors, including in temperature extremes. Ability to work in confined/cramped spaces and from elevated areas. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs unassisted, and to lift and lower 50 lbs objects from floor to 36 inches. Ability to perform gross motor, fine motor, and repetitive motion tasks. Ability to see, hear, and maintain vision and tactile acuity. Ability to work rotating shifts, overtime, and in a latex‑safe environment. Ability to use a respirator as required.
