Child Nutrition Central Kitchen Truck Driver

This position's responsibilities are to load and deliver food from central kitchen to satellite schools and other deliveries as assigned.

Essential Functions

  • Drives delivery box truck with hydraulic lift gate from central kitchen location to satellite schools on assigned route(s). Performs pre-route safety check.
  • Verifies products and quantities for delivery to each school location. Documents amounts were checked and verified on transport record.
  • Checks and records temperatures of indicated food items and time of transport on transport record. For cook-chill product, sets and places log tags between cook-chill bags. Ensures HACCP protocols are followed during loading, transport and delivery of food products.
  • Loads, balances and secures loads using proper procedures and for optimal efficiency (last delivery first, first delivery last).
  • Drives to satellite schools and unloads food in timely manner. Ensures student safety and avoids student drop-off and pick-up zones as able. Reports routing conflicts to supervisor.
  • Verifies product at delivery site, checks and records appropriate food temperatures. Completes transport record. Obtains signature from PIC. Unloads food and places in appropriate/designated kitchen locations.
  • Returns to central kitchen location to determine if additional food needs to be delivered. Picks up, delivers and returns dirty laundry to be washed. Starts washer and/or folds laundry at central kitchen. Bags and labels clean laundry for next day's delivery.
  • Returns truck after shift to the central kitchen loading dock and turns in keys to central kitchen logistics office.
  • Pressure washes and sanitizes transport carts and runs transport cart sheet pans through the dishwasher weekly.

Other Functions

  • Keeps track of daily menus to make certain that all food items and condiments are delivered in timely fashion.
  • Checks and maintains fluids and gas levels in assigned truck. Washes truck and cleans cab regularly.
  • May assist in central kitchen warehouse as needed.
  • May carry district mail between locations.
  • May serve on various district committees and/or departmental work teams. Models appropriate and cooperative behavior, including protecting confidential information, consistent with district ethical guidelines.
  • Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.

Reporting Relationships

Reports to the Warehouse and Logistics Supervisor.

Mental Demands

Required to meet strict delivery timelines.

Physical Demands

Required to stand for prolonged periods; required to lift, move or carry objects weighing more than fifty (50) pounds; potentially exposed to ordinary infectious diseases carried by students; required to wear protective clothing; exposed to high noise levels; may need to take precautions to avoid exposure to burn danger from high temperatures (ovens) and low temperatures (freezers). Required to operate a motor vehicle on public roads; required to crouch, crawl, bend or work in confined positions. Passage of a pre-employment physical and testing is required of this position (the district assumes the cost).

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience Education, training, skills, and experience necessary to carry out the assignment. Allowable Substitutions Not applicable. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to communicate effectively. Skill in operating a box delivery truck with hydraulic lift gate. Ability to lift, carry and move heavy objects. Ability to load and balance truck using electric or manual pallet jack, pallet sled or hand truck. Ability to safely secure loads. Knowledge of safe lifting techniques. Ability to meet offer vs. serve meal pattern requirements if position assists in serving food. Ability to maintain and establish effective working relationships with a variety of others. Licenses/Special Requirements Requires fingerprinting and background check to determine that there have been no convictions involving physical molestation, abuse, injury or neglect of a minor. Must complete training in and adhere to district infection control plan. Valid Washington state food handler's permit. Valid Washington state driver's license and a good driving record.
