The CDI Query Writer is responsible for facilitating and distributing compliant queries to appropriate providers to obtain optimal quality documentation ensuring proper translation of the medical record and capture the true clinical picture of each patient.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Assess the clinical indicators and suggestions of various query requests received from theMD Reviewer/DRG Integrity Specialist
- Collaborateand communicateas necessarytoclarifyand avoid misinterpretationto ensure the query isoptimallywritten and distributed to the correct client provider
- Creates queries in a compliant manner in accordance withAHIMA and ACDIS compliant query guidelines as well as American Hospital Association (AHA) Coding Clinic Guidelines, ensuring that proper medical diagnoses and procedures are beingsubmittedfor reimbursement
- Constructs querieswith attention to detail,utilizingproper grammar and punctuation
- Utilizes ICD-10 coding guidelines and medical terminology toexpertly create a query whichresults inimprovedaccuracy of patient severity of illness,and/orrisk of mortalityrepresentingthe patient’s true clinical pictureinfinal code assignment
- Participates in all educational opportunities provided by Accuityfor updates incurrent coding and query writingguidelinesas well asinternal and client policies and procedures
- Utilizes Accuitypolicies and procedures, as well as Federal and State coding reimbursement guidelines, and application of correct coding guidelines to ensure thedocumentation supportscode assignmentisat the greatest level of specificity
- Will competentlyuse Accuitytrackingtool for dataentry for reportable criteria
- Maintains expected productivity and quality standards
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
Position Qualifications:
Education (at least one of the following):
- Foreign Medical Graduate
- Associate's degree in nursing
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing
- Other related degree will be reviewed as the discretion of management
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years ofclinical work experience
- Minimum 2 yearsofcurrent InpatientCDI experience
Licensureand/orCredentials (at least one of the following):
- MD, DO, CDIP, RN, BSN, CCS, or CCDS
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent critical thinking skills
- Strong computer skills with the ability to learn multiple EMR systems as well as data reporting systems
- Ability to analyze data, perform multiple tasks and work independently
- Must be able to develop andmaintainprofessional, service-oriented working relationships with all staffespecially Accuityphysician reviewers
- Must be able to understand andcomply withpolicies and procedures
- Ability to multi-task while utilizingmultiple screens
- Ability to use a PC in a Windows environment, including MS Word
- Independent, focused individual able to work remotely or on-site
