Case Manager for Los Angeles Unarmed Model of Crisis Response (UMCR)

Job Title – Case Manager Department – Los Angeles UMCR Program Reports To – Program Manager FLSA Status – Non-Exempt Work Setting – Field-Based, On-Site Primary Service Area – Los Angeles, CA Schedule – Full-Time, 12-hour rotating shifts (Day or Overnight - 9:00 am – 9:30 pm or 9:00 pm – 9:30 am ) Pay Range – $23.00 to $26.78 per hour, DOE
The Impact You'll Make
As a Case Manager with the UMCR Program, you will respond to non-violent community crisis calls as part of a specialized field-based response team. You will provide crisis intervention, behavioral health support, resource navigation, and follow-up services to individuals experiencing behavioral health emergencies and other social service needs while helping divert appropriate calls from traditional law enforcement responses.
Crisis Response and Intervention
- Respond to non-violent crisis calls dispatched through a centralized communications system.
- Conduct wellness checks, crisis assessments, and behavioral health evaluations.
- Utilize trauma-informed de-escalation techniques to stabilize individuals experiencing emotional or behavioral distress.
- Assess immediate safety concerns and coordinate appropriate interventions and referrals.
- Provide compassionate, client-centered support during mental health, substance use, and social service-related crises.
Case Management and Resource Navigation
- Connect individuals with housing, medical care, behavioral health treatment, substance use services, and other community resources.
- Provide short-term field-based case management and follow-up support.
- Advocate for clients and assist with reducing barriers to accessing services.
- Promote client stabilization, recovery, and long-term community engagement.
Collaboration and Documentation
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members, supervisors, dispatch personnel, and community partners.
- Complete timely, accurate, and comprehensive documentation of all client contacts and interventions.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with all HIPAA, mandatory reporting, and agency policies.
- Participate in case consultations, supervision, staff meetings, and ongoing professional development.
Additional Responsibilities
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of program operations and client care.
Your Qualifications
Education and Experience
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Minimum one (1) year of experience providing case management, street outreach, crisis intervention, or services to unhoused or vulnerable populations.
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or a related field preferred.
- Experience working with individuals experiencing serious mental illness, substance use disorders, or behavioral health crises preferred.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

- Ability to remain calm, professional, and compassionate in high-pressure situations.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple field-based responsibilities.
Licenses and Requirements
- Valid California Driver's License with a clean driving record for the past three (3) years.
- Must meet agency driving and insurance eligibility requirements.
- Successful completion of Live Scan fingerprinting and comprehensive background screening.
- Ability to travel throughout the Los Angeles service area.
Work Schedule
- Full-time position working 12-hour shifts ( 9:00 a.m. – 9:30 p.m. or 9:00 p.m. – 9:30 a.m. ).
- Rotating schedule consisting of a three-day work week followed by a four-day work week.
- Day, evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts may be required.
- No on-call responsibilities outside of scheduled shifts.
- Overtime paid in accordance with applicable wage and hour laws.

- Company vehicle provided during scheduled field response activities.
- Company-issued laptop and mobile phone.
- Mileage reimbursement when authorized use of a personal vehicle is required.
- Comprehensive paid training in crisis intervention, safety protocols, trauma-informed care, and de-escalation techniques.
