Position Description

Duties & Responsibilities:
- Builds, installs, and repairs structural woodwork, flooring, ceilings and cabinets, and other structures.
- Plans projects as requested and ensures manpower, materials and equipment needs are met.
- Documents all work performed.
- Operates, maintains, and calibrates hand and power carpentry tools
- Reads and comprehends plans and blueprints. Handles administrative work (receiving reports, job sheets, etc.) as needed
- Complies with federal regulations governing safety, environmental protection and the use of chemicals and materials common to carpentry
- Drives and operates all types of construction equipment as assigned (bucket truck, forklift, front end loader, bob cat, backhoe, one man lift, multi-person lift, ditching machine, etc.)

Requirements
Education and Experience:
- Education can be substituted for work experience.
- Four (4) to five (5) years' experience in carpentry to include foundation work, framing, finish carpentry, and roofing
- Completion of a carpentry vocational/technical school or a recognized apprenticeship program is preferred.
- Valid driver's license (Texas by hire date) and a good driving record
- Skilled in all phases of carpentry techniques, materials, methods of installation and construction
- Proficient in multi-tasking to meet deadlines provided
- Ability to work well at all levels of management, staff and public
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing
- Knowledgeable of principles, methods, practices, materials, equipment and tools for building repairs and maintenance.
Preferences
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent from an accredited educational institution preferred. Education can be substituted for work experience.
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:
- This is a regular full-time position, requiring the employee to work 40 hours per week.
- Hours may vary based on business needs of the department and some weekends, evening hours or holidays may be required during special events.
- Situations may require additional hours without prior notice.
- Required to work on-site during an emergency event.
- Perform emergency standby duty, during non-duty hours, as assigned.
- Work is on active construction sites involving pervasive hazards associated with heavy equipment and tool operations; speeding traffic; loud and constant noise; and regular exposure to chemicals, dust, fumes, and combustible materials.
- Required to work outdoors on varied and often unstable terrain involving exposure to varying weather conditions of extreme hot and cold temperatures.
- Some working conditions require special precautions and the use of protective gear (e.g., hard hats, respirator masks, gloves, etc.).
- Essential functions involve significant demands related to repeated lifting of up to 50 pounds unassisted, 100 pounds with assistance rarely, carrying tools, materials, and equipment over rough terrain, climbing, reaching and bending.
- Frequently required to walk, sit, talk, drive, hear, bend, stoop, twist, and balance; ability to kneel, crawl and grasp manual controls and to use foot controls and operate gas, diesel, and electrically powered equipment.
