Carpenter

Performs the full range of carpentry duties including cutting, constructing, installing, repairing, and modifying steel, wood, and composite materials to accomplish repairs, alterations, additions, and occasional new construction. Accomplishes close tolerances, precise fit, structural soundness, and a finished appearance by measuring and cutting materials to exact specifications using straight, angle, and curved cuts. Prepares and uses hand and power tools and equipment to construct and make repairs to structural components such as rafters, walls, drop ceilings, staircases, flooring, windows, frames, doors, interior and exterior trim, furniture, cabinets, concrete and concrete forms, scaffolding, drywall, roof decking, and related structures. Plans, measures, and lays out carpentry projects. Estimates materials for repair, minor improvement, maintenance, and station labor projects in order to provide management with cost figures for special projects, preventative maintenance, equipment repair, and improvement projects. Performs routine maintenance such as lubricating machinery, changing and sharpening blades, and adjusting drive belt tensions. Performs a variety of work in related labor trades including shop cleaning and medical center grounds snow removal. Drywall/Sheetrock: Measures, cuts, and shapes sheets using hand and power tools, accommodating mechanical and structural features. Installs on walls, ceilings, and structural framing, ensuring proper alignment and fit. Flooring: Installs, repairs, and replaces a variety of flooring systems. Prepares subfloors and measures, cuts, and secures flooring using hand and power tools, adhesives, fasteners and mechanical systems appropriate to flooring type. Concrete Work: Constructs, repairs, and replaces small slabs, footings, pads, curbs, walkways, and equipment pads. Uses patch compounds, bonding agents, epoxy fillers, and other approved materials to restore strength and appearance. Roofing: Installs, repairs, and replaces sheet metal roofing systems using specialized tools to fabricate, cut, shape and bend materials for installation. Prepares roof decking surfaces prior to installation. Performs tuckpointing on brick, block, and masonry structures. Removes cracked or loose mortar and replaces with new mortar to restore structural integrity. Insulation: Installs, repairs, and replaces wall insulation materials. Prepares wall framing. Measures, cuts, and secures installation to meet R values, fire ratings, and manufacturer's specifications. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: M-F 7:00am-3:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Carpenter/PD05051A Physical Requirements: Considerable standing, stooping, and bending is required. Climbing and working from ladders and scaffolds in stretched, cramped, or awkward positions is necessary. Using a hammer and other hand tools necessitates considerable arm and hand movement and dexterity. Lifts and carries items up to 50 pounds. Items over 50 pounds are infrequently carried or others assist in movement.
