Career of the Week - Dentist

Are you intrigued by the world of teeth and oral health? Do you enjoy hands-on work and are good at communication with others? If so, then a career as a dentist may be for you.

Dentists study and treat diseases, injuries and problems of the mouth, teeth, gums and jaw. They also educate patients on how to avoid oral health problems.

Dentists may do some or all of the following:

• examine patients’ teeth and gums
• identify and treat teeth that need fixing
• replace missing teeth with implants
• improve how teeth look with treatments
• give advice on cleaning of teeth
• refer patients to dental specialists or professionals
• repair and fill damaged teeth
• remove teeth when necessary
• work with specialised equipment and x-ray machines

usually work in dental clinics

may work in hazardous conditions

need to be responsible, methodical and safety conscious
