Summary
Performs direct patient care; electrocardiograms (ECG‘s); stress testing; and cardiac monitors.
Responsibilities
- Reviews provider‘s orders and performs ancillary tests. Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure patient‘s understanding and cooperation. Performs responsibilities of underlying job(s) and is able to assist precept new hires and/or student interns.
- Prepares equipment and supplies, positions patient and analyzes results. Identifies issues with quality of tracings, including re-positioning patient and repeating procedure.
- Monitors patient condition and reports on or responds to changes in status and adverse results as appropriate.
- Maintains equipment in clean, working condition. Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions as necessary.
- Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.
Requirements
- Certification as a Cardiographic Technician (CCT) by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI), OR Certified EKG Technician (CET) by National Health Career Association (NHA), OR Certified EKG Technician (CEKG) by National Workforce Career Association (NWCA), OR EKG Technician Certification (ETC) by American Medical Certification Association (AMCA) or National Certified ECG Technician (NCET) through National Center for Competency Testing within 1 year of hire.
- High School diploma or GED.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification. Relevant life support certification as determined at position level, 1 year of relevant experience. BLS through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer with card in-hand before start date. BLS or CPR card must be good through sixty days of hire.
