Cardiothoracic Surgeon

A facility in Louisiana is seeking a Board Certified Cardiothoracic Surgeon for ongoing locum tenens 24-hour weekend call coverage, starting October 2026. This streamlined assignment focuses solely on call coverage, with no clinic duties, supporting a CT Surgery service line at a 290+ bed hospital. The role involves managing inpatient volumes and performing surgical cases, utilizing Epic EMR.

Practice Info

• Covering CT Surgery Service Line
• 100% 24-hour call coverage only - no clinic/outpatient coverage needs
• Daily inpatient volume: will see between 10-15 patients/day
• Weekly surgical case volume: can anticipate doing 7-10 cases / week
• One NP that assists with weekday patient rounding, etc. (Not OR based) - will be present on Friday's until 5P
• Hospital details: 290+ bed facility, Level III Trauma Designation, Epic EMR

Responsibilities

• Provide 24-hour call coverage
• Cover the full scope of CT Surgery
• Round on attached & unattached patients
• Cover the ED for new consults, emergent cases, etc.
• Look at a post op patient's incision occasionally when covering weekday shifts

Shift & Schedule

• 24-hour weekend call coverage starting October 2026 & ongoing
• Mainly weekends, with sporadic holiday needs & extended coverage blocks available
• Will need to arrive 1 business day in advance to your first shift to do training + orientation
• 7AM - 7AM start & end time

Requirements

• Board Certification
• Active, unrestricted Louisiana medical license & DEA required
• Willing to consider candidates that are actively enrolled with the IMLC
