Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our intensivist for our Cardiothoracic ICU with the Norton Thoracic Institute at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center, you will provide advanced medical care for the hospitalized patients in the CICU so they can achieve optimal recovery and improved outcomes.

In this role, you will provide exceptional, cutting‑edge critical care for a diverse patient population within the CICU. You will be expected to manage cardiovascular, thoracic/esophageal surgical, and cardiac patients, including those with advanced circulatory support devices like ECMO and Impella, and participate in a Cardiovascular Shock Team.

To be successful in this role, you will be board certified or board eligible, possess strong critical care skills, demonstrated teamwork ability, and experience or a keen interest in managing advanced circulatory support devices, along with the potential for academic involvement. Experience and or interest in managing patients with advanced circulatory support devices (VA and VV ECMO, Impella, Protech Duos, balloon pumps etc.) is essential. Advanced training in ECMO cannulation and participation in a “Cardiovascular Shock Team” will be part of the skill set which will be incorporated in this practice. We will offer hands‑on training and education to those who are dedicated and interested in state‑of‑the‑art care to patients requiring Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS).

Job Requirements

Required

  • MD or DO Degree and Board Certification
  • Completed ACGME Residency training with current ABMS Board Certification
  • Completed ACGME Fellowship training with current (or eligible) ABMS Board Certification in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine or Critical Care Medicine
  • Ability to achieve full and unrestricted hospital/surgical privileges at Dignity Health Arizona hospitals
  • Active or eligible license in the state of Arizona

The Norton Thoracic Institute is a premier organization with one of the leading lung transplant programs in the country. Our group includes 7 thoracic surgeons practicing at 3 clinic locations, along with a team of renowned advanced pulmonologists, interventional pulmonologists and critical care physicians dedicated to the highest quality care of patients with complex thoracic and advanced pulmonary disease. The successful candidate will be a team player and program builder willing to develop the expanding practice growing cardiac ICU service at St. Joseph’s Hospital & Medical Center.

NTI is a division of Dignity Health/CommonSpirit Health with vibrant practices at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center (571 beds) along with Chandler Regional Medical Center (470 beds), serving all three regions of the Valley of the Sun.
