Position Summary

The Department of Surgery at the University of North Carolina is seeking a board‑eligible or board‑certified full‑time academic cardiac surgeon to join the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery. The appointment is open‑rank and may be fixed‑term, tenure/tenure‑track, or variable track. The Division includes 10 faculty members across adult cardiac surgery, congenital cardiac surgery, and thoracic surgery.

Responsibilities

  • Surgical management of heart failure, cardiac transplantation, mechanical circulatory support, aortic and coronary artery surgery, and surgical and trans‑catheter management of valvular disease.
  • Teaching residents and students.
  • Conducting research commensurate with academic rank.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the educational mission and effective teamwork and collaboration across a multidisciplinary team.
  • Applicants with complementary skills such as academic experience in clinical outcomes, quality and safety, health services, education, ethics, informatics, or clinical expertise in heart failure, transplant, or minimally invasive approaches are strongly encouraged to apply.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

MD, board‑certified or board‑eligible cardiac surgeon with a minimum of five years experience as an academic surgeon.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

The successful candidate will be team‑oriented and possess the ability to interact well with colleagues inside and outside the Division.

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. The holder will report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
