Position Summary
The Device Technician supports the implantable cardiac device program through direct patient care, device interrogation and monitoring, clinical documentation, education, research, and database maintenance.
This individual will work with patients who have implantable cardiac devices, performing onsite device interrogations and reviewing remote device transmissions. The Device Technician also supports physicians, NPs/PAs, fellows, and other clinical staff in understanding device data and its role in managing patients with arrhythmias.
Key Responsibilities
- Room patients and complete required intake and clinical documentation.
- Independently interrogate implantable cardiac devices during scheduled patient visits.
- Reprogram devices under the supervision/direction of a Physician, NP, or PA.
- Enter and maintain patient and device information for new implants and existing patients.
- Monitor patients enrolled in cardiac device monitoring programs.
- Perform and oversee routine remote device monitoring and review patient-submitted transmissions.
- Coordinate and review device data obtained through onsite interrogations and remote monitoring databases.
- Provide clinical support during device interrogations and reprogramming.
- Educate fellows, NP/PAs, and other staff on implantable cardiac devices, device data, and their role in arrhythmia management.
- Participate in ongoing research studies and maintain implantable device-related databases.

Minimum Qualifications
- At least 1 year of cardiology experience in a clinic or hospital setting.
- Current BLS certification endorsed by the American Heart Association within 30 days of hire.
- IBHRE certification required within 4 years of hire.
- Certified Rhythm Analysis Technician (CRAT) credential/certification required within 2 years of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree.
- Experience reviewing and managing remote cardiac device transmissions using platforms such as CareLink, LATITUDE, or Merlin.
- Cardiovascular Technologist or EP Lab Technologist with an RCES or RCIS credential.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience working with cardiac devices.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to read patient information and equipment labels, assess patient needs, and operate clinical equipment and monitors.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and clinical staff, including during emergency situations.
- Manual dexterity to operate complex equipment and perform frequent computer documentation.
- Ability to assist with patient transfers and lift/carry supplies and equipment, including heavier items.
- Ability to walk, transport or assist patients, and push/pull gurneys and portable equipment.
- Ability to work in busy clinical environments and stand for extended periods.
