- Assist cardiologists and healthcare professionals during angioplasty, stent placement, pacemaker implantation, electrophysiology studies, and valvuloplasty
- Provide direct patient care during high-risk cardiac procedures
- Monitor vital signs, manage cardiac rhythms, administer medications, and respond to emergencies
- Prepare patients for catheterization and other cardiac procedures, explain the process, obtain medical history, and address concerns
- Scrub and circulate during procedures while maintaining a sterile environment
- Monitor patients for post-procedural complications, provide recovery support, educate patients and families, and document outcomes
- Operate specialized cath lab equipment and assist with hemostasis devices
- Complete procedural checklists
- Collaborate with cardiologists, radiologic technologists, and other team members on individualized care plans and patient care coordination
- Participate in continuing education, clinical audits, and professional development activities
Requirements
- Strong knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and catheterization procedures
- Ability to interpret EKGs and manage cardiac emergencies
- Skilled in operating cath lab equipment and maintaining sterile fields
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and patient education abilities
- Ability to work under high-stress conditions
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); BSN is often preferred
- Current RN license
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Ability to stand for extended periods during procedures
- Ability to safely lift, turn, and transfer patients up to 50 lbs with or without assistance
- Fine motor skills for handling delicate instruments, managing IV lines, and maintaining precision in a sterile environment
- Strong manual dexterity for catheter manipulation, guidewires, and specialized cardiac catheterization equipment
