Cardiac Anesthesiologist

Anesthesia Specialists of Bethlehem (ASB), a physician-led private anesthesia practice, is seeking a full-time, partnership-track anesthesiologist with fellowship training in cardiac anesthesiology. This role offers the opportunity to join an expanding practice within the St. Luke’s University Health Network, providing high-quality perioperative care across a large, integrated hospital network. The position involves comprehensive cardiac anesthesia practice at a newly built cardiac tower, alongside a broad and diverse case mix.

Practice Info

• ASB is comprised of 85 anesthesiologists and 168 CRNAs.
• ASB provides anesthesia coverage across 13 inpatient hospitals and 3 ambulatory surgery centers.
• The primary site for the cardiac program is St. Luke’s Anderson Campus, a Level II Trauma Center.
• The cardiac anesthesia team currently consists of six full-time fellowship-trained cardiac anesthesiologists.
• The practice is deeply committed to the Perioperative Surgical Home model.
• Physician leadership is central to the culture of the practice.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct (non-supervisory) care for cardiac surgical cases approximately 1.5–2 days per week.
• Spend remaining clinical time within the general anesthesiology pool.
• Perform routine coronary bypass and valve surgery.
• Perform complex and emergent aortic surgery.
• Perform Left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation.
• Perform minimally invasive and structural heart procedures, including TAVR and MitraClip.
• Lead Acute Pain Services.
• Lead Surgical Optimization Clinics and ERAS protocols across nearly all surgical specialties.

Compensation

• Average total annual compensation package is approximately $655,000.
• $501,000 base salary.
• Approximately $80,000 from cardiac and voluntary call opportunities.
• $70,000 employer-funded 401(k) contribution.
• $3,000 CME allowance.
• $1,650 employer-funded HRA.
• $100,000 sign-on bonus.
• $10,000 relocation assistance.
• $500/month vehicle stipend for travel between campuses.
• $80/month cellphone stipend.
• One-time equity buy-in of $2,500.

Shift & Schedule

• Full-time position.
• Cardiac Call (all home-based with additional compensation beyond base salary): First call: 24-hour shifts, minimum 3/month (includes 1 weekend day).
• Cardiac Call: Second call: weekdays, coverage until 7pm.
• General Call: First call: in-house overnight, twice/month (weekdays, 4pm–7am); post-call day off provided.
• General Call: Weekend call: 24-hour shifts (7am–7am), ~3–4×/year; post-call day off provided.
• Combined call frequency: approximately 1:7 to 1:8.
