Buyer, Frozen/Bakery

Job Summary:

Coordinate and identify product suppliers, negotiate price and quantity terms, and establish long-term contracts to ensure an adequate supply of high-quality products for Foodservice Distribution at competitive prices. Maintain established service levels for product in-stock. Assist with special order requests. Functions as a team member within the department and organization, as required, and performs any duty assigned to best serve the company.

Job Responsibilities:

• Select vendors based on their ability to provide a continuous supply of product; overall service level; responsiveness to the market, as shown through product innovation; product quality and value; relationships with competitors; and understanding of the marketplace.
• Maintain vendor relationships by resolving invoicing, product, or delivery issues to ensure quality service and long-term relationships.
• Select products based on application to our market, product performance, alternate sources of supply, and the vendor's overall reputation.
• Negotiate prices and quantities based on customer orders, economic order point (volume discounts vs. efficient use of warehousing space), product promotion, and overall market conditions.
• Negotiate long-term contracts based upon the same considerations and the need for continuous supply.
• Serve distribution centers in emergency situations by obtaining product and delivering it on an expedient basis.
• Provide product and pricing information to the sales force and recommend pricing structures for product lines based on volume and margin considerations.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

High School Diploma/GED or Equivalent Experience

1 - 2 years purchasing or related area

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree: Business, supply chain, or related area

2 - 4 years purchasing or related area within the foodservice industry - specifically focusing on frozen foods
