MLC Recruitment is seeking a detail-oriented and strategic Business Unit Controller for their client in the Lynchburg area. The Business Unit Controller will support financial operations, reporting, and performance management for a rapidly growing business unit. This role partners closely with operational leaders to drive financial accuracy, budgeting discipline, forecasting, and business insights that support decision-making and profitability.
The ideal candidate has strong analytical skills, experience with financial reporting and controls, and the ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for the business unit
- Monitor financial performance, identify variances, and provide actionable recommendations
- Support month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations
- Develop financial models and ad hoc analyses to support business initiatives
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Lead annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes
- Partner with department leaders to develop operating plans and expense forecasts
- Provide insights on revenue trends, cost management, and profitability improvement opportunities
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, company policies, and internal controls
- Support internal and external audit activities
- Maintain accuracy and integrity of financial data and reporting systems
- Assist with process improvements and automation initiatives
Business Partnership
- Collaborate with operations, sales, and senior leadership teams to support strategic decision-making
- Translate financial data into clear business insights for non-financial stakeholders
- Participate in cross-functional projects and operational reviews
- Support pricing analysis, capital expenditures, and investment evaluations
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 4+ years of experience in accounting, finance, FP&A, or controllership roles
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
- Proficiency with ERP systems (such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or Microsoft Dynamics)
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
