Business ManagerBardwell Group – Charter School Management Company Location: Metro Detroit (with support to multiple campuses) Employment Type: Full-TimePosition SummaryBardwell Group is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Business Manager to support the financial and operational management of our charter school campuses. The Business Manager plays a critical role in ensuring fiscal integrity, compliance, and efficient day-to-day business operations in support of school leadership and student success.This role works closely with school principals, central office leadership, and external partners to manage budgets, financial reporting, purchasing, payroll coordination, and compliance requirements.Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Management & BudgetingDevelop, manage, and monitor school budgets in collaboration with leadershipTrack expenditures to ensure alignment with approved budgetsPrepare financial reports for school leadership, boards, and managementMonitor grant funds and restricted accounts for compliance and accuracyAccounting & Financial OperationsOversee accounts payable and receivable processesProcess purchase orders, invoices, reimbursements, and expense documentationCoordinate payroll processing and verify accuracy with HR and payroll vendorsReconcile accounts and assist with month-end and year-end close processesSupport annual audits and financial reviewsProcurement & Vendor ManagementManage purchasing processes in accordance with school and authorizer policiesMaintain vendor relationships and contractsEnsure proper documentation and approvals for all financial transactionsCompliance & ReportingEnsure compliance with state, federal, authorizer, and board financial requirementsAssist with required financial reporting and data submissionsMaintain accurate and organized financial records and documentationOperational & Administrative SupportServe as a key business partner to school leadershipSupport enrollment, attendance, and funding-related reporting as neededParticipate in leadership meetings related to operations and financeAssist with special projects and operational initiatives as assignedQualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field (required)Minimum of 3–5 years of financial or business management experiencePrior experience in charter schools, K–12 education, or nonprofit organizations strongly preferredStrong knowledge of budgeting, accounting principles, and financial reportingExperience working with payroll systems and accounting softwareHigh level of organization, accuracy, and attention to detailAbility to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlinesStrong communication and relationship-building skillsHigh level of discretion and professionalismPreferred ExperienceCharter school finance or school management organization experienceFamiliarity with Michigan charter school authorizer requirementsExperience supporting audits and board reporting
