SuretyBind, an innovative industry consortium owned by some of the largest US sureties, is focused on transforming the surety industry through technology-driven solutions. Our products are designed to transmit data across the surety ecosystem and, eventually, support digital bonding. We are seeking a Business Development Lead to drive adoption of SuretyBind's products across the $11 billion surety market that is ripe for transformation.
Position Overview:
The Business Development Lead will own SuretyBind's commercial relationships across the surety industry and will be responsible for growing consortium membership and adoption of SuretyBind's products. This role calls for a consultative, top-down relationship manager who is comfortable establishing and advancing executive-level conversations. Surety-specific experience is a plus but not required. This person should be goal-oriented with a record of success, comfortable working in an early-stage environment, and capable of independently owning a sales pipeline from prospecting through close.
Key Responsibilities:
Sales Strategy & Pipeline Development
- Develop and execute a top-down sales strategy targeting both sureties and brokers that align with SuretyBind's business objectives.
- Build, manage, and maintain a healthy pipeline of prospective consortium members across both the surety and broker markets.
- Own the full sales cycle - prospecting, qualification, discovery, proposal, negotiation, and close.
- Promote consortium membership, clearly articulating the value of SuretyBind Membership to both sureties and brokers.
- Sell SuretyBind's products to the broader industry, including both member and non-member companies.
- Collaborate with leadership on proposals and packaging to fit the needs of different brokerage prospects.
Relationship Management & Market Engagement
- Build and maintain executive-level relationships across both the surety and broker communities.
- Represent SuretyBind at industry events, conferences, and industry organizations (such as NASBP) to build awareness and generate demand.
- Serve as the voice of the customer, channeling surety and broker feedback and market intelligence to the product and technology teams.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with the Chief Technology Officer and product team to align sales efforts with the product roadmap and integration priorities.
- Coordinate with technology teams to support prospect onboarding and integration discussions.
- As the organization scales, potentially build, mentor, and lead a small business development team.
Reporting & Forecasting
- Maintain accurate CRM records, sales forecasts, and pipeline reporting.
- Track and report on key sales metrics and progress against targets to leadership.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of business development or sales experience.
- 2+ years selling to the broker market strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets, ideally in a complex, consultative, or enterprise sales environment.
- Experience navigating top-down, executive-level sales cycles with multiple stakeholders.
- Strong relationship building, communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
- Self-directed and goal-oriented, with the ability to own and drive a pipeline independently.
- Comfortable operating in an early-stage environment with evolving processes and priorities.
- Surety or broader insurance domain knowledge is a plus.
- Technology sales to insurance brokers strongly preferred.
- Ability to travel as required (estimated up to approximately one week per month).
