We are a design-driven architecture and interior design firm seeking a Business Development Director to help lead growth for our Commercial/Workplace Interiors practice in Washington, D.C. This strategic role focuses on identifying new opportunities, strengthening client relationships, and positioning the firm as a leader in workplace design. The ideal candidate combines strong industry knowledge with a passion for design, relationship building, and market development.
Role and Responsibilities
- Develop and execute business development strategies to grow the Commercial/Workplace Interiors practice in alignment with firm goals.
- Identify, cultivate, and manage client relationships , including corporate clients, brokers, project managers, and industry partners.
- Collaborate with studio leader and project team to position the firm for high-impact project pursuits.
- Lead pursuit efforts , including qualification packages, proposals, presentations, and interviews.
- Support and guide design teams in effectively communicating design concepts and value propositions to clients.
- Leverage industry insights to inform strategic planning, market positioning, and sector trends.
- Represent the firm at industry events, conferences, panels, and thought leadership opportunities .
- Partner with marketing to build brand visibility and promote project achievements.
- Maintain strong knowledge of emerging workplace strategies, technologies, and sustainability initiatives to enhance client offerings.
Experience and Qualifications
- Minimum 10+ years of experience in commercial/workplace interior design and/or business development for architecture and interior design firms
- Background in design or architecture required; NCIDQ licensure is strongly preferred.
- Deep familiarity with commercial/workplace interiors markets , including client, broker, and partner ecosystems.
- Proven success in developing new business , managing key accounts, and driving revenue growth.
- Outstanding presentation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, CRM platforms, and basic design software (Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp).
- Understanding of sustainable design principles and industry standards; familiarity with AIA 2030 DDX goals preferred.
- Published work, speaking experience, or industry recognition beneficial.
