This position will be part of the Enterprise Services team, which delivers a full suite of services to state agencies, boards, councils, and commissions, and many central services to local government partners.

Job Summary

Minnesota IT Services (MNIT) is seeking a skilled and forward-thinking Modern Workplace & Business Applications Manager to lead our Microsoft 365 (M365) and Web/Application Development teams within the Software as a Service (SaaS) Division. This role is critical to advancing modern, secure, and user-centered technology services across Minnesota’s Executive Branch agencies.

In this role, you’ll guide service delivery teams to align with MNIT’s enterprise IT strategy and support the changing needs of government users and stakeholders. You will lead day-to-day operations of the enterprise M365 collaboration and productivity tools including Email, SharePoint, Teams, Power Platform, as well as the Tridion-based enterprise web hosting services and custom Application development teams.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading the planning, delivery, and continuous improvement of collaboration and productivity tools across the enterprise.
• Ensuring services meet high standards for performance, security, and user experience.
• Driving standardization and efficiency in how cloud-based and on-premises tools are used across the enterprise.
• Building strategic partnerships and contributing to governance efforts to increase technology adoption and value.
• Collaborating with Customer Service Management and Financial Management teams to establish rates, monitor budgets and align technology services with business goals.

We’re looking for a collaborative leader who understands both the technical and strategic dimensions of enterprise IT services and can help guide Minnesota’s digital government efforts into the future.

This position requires an employee to be onsite in St. Paul, Minnesota at least 50% of the time, with some opportunity to perform work from a telework location.

• Telework for Minnesota IT Services is available on a limited basis.
• Only candidates residing in Minnesota and its bordering states are eligible for telework.
• Candidates residing 50 miles or more from the permanent work location require additional review prior to telework approval upon becoming a finalist.

Qualifications

This position requires a minimum of five (5) years of experience working in a complex IT environment AND two (2) years of supervisory experience. Supervisor experience should cover multiple areas such as: selecting, orienting, and training employees; coaching, counseling, and performance managing employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results, etc.

Experience must include:

• Leadership of one or more Microsoft 365 cloud service, operational-focused team(s).
• Leading teams with an Application Development or Infrastructure as Code focus.
• Advanced technology operations business and personnel management skills sufficient to oversee a complex technology and customer facing unit.
• Experience working with IT Security practitioners to design and align operational services with security policy and standards.
• Experience leading collaborative efforts and align services and standards with a wide variety of stakeholders across the enterprise.
• Ability to deliver effective verbal or written messages that facilitate a mutual understanding on both parties.
• Customer service skills that include active listening, empathy, and problem-solving.

Two (2) years of experience in a Systems Architect classification or two (2) years of experience in an external IT Architect role may substitute for the required supervisory experience.
