You'll be a member of our highly respected team of professionals with a full complement of resources to support you and exciting projects to keep you challenged.Job RequirementsResponsible for meeting all state and locally mandated code compliance and reporting requirements.Apply knowledge of building codes, policies, and procedures to the day-to-day functions of the building department.Serve as the primary liaison with our clients in this area and is responsible for ensuring that we deliver the highest level of customer serviceResponsible for attending department and community meetings as required by the client.Perform some plan reviews both commercial and residential in all trades.Perform inspection support as needed.Supervise building department staff.Skills/KnowledgeBe able to demonstrate extensive knowledge of local building code regulations, policies and proceduresHave solid computer skills and experience using MS Office programsExcellent verbal and written communication skillsExercise initiative and display independent judgmentBe self-directed and self-motivatedEducation/Certification/ExperienceOH Commercial Building Official (CBO) (Lvl 5) OR Comprehensive Code Official (CCO) (Lvl 6) certification requiredPlumbing and/or electrical specializations are a plusLevel 2 (RLC-REI) or Level 3 (RLC – ESI)Level 2 (RLC – RPI) or Level 3 (RLC -PI)Additional OH certifications are a plusInspection experience preferredClient and team management experience in a building department setting preferredMust have a valid driver's license and a good driving recordPhysical RequirementsFrequent walking, standing, climbing, bending, stooping, crawling, or kneeling to conduct inspections.Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, or unfinished stairways to access roofs, attics, crawl spaces, and other elevated or confined areas.Occasional lifting, carrying, or moving objects up to 25–50 pounds (e.g., inspection tools, plans, or small equipment).Visual acuity sufficient to read construction plans, technical documents, and observe construction details.Ability to detect safety hazards and defects through visual and auditory inspection.Hearing sufficient to communicate with contractors, workers, and the public in noisy environments.Use of hands and fingers to handle tools, operate inspection equipment, and use computers/tablets for reporting.Work performed in both office and field settings.Exposure to outdoor weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow) and construction site environments (noise, dust, uneven terrain).Frequent driving between inspection sites and company locations within a region.Compensation & BenefitsSAFEbuilt pays competitive wages and has a comprehensive benefit offering.
