Building/Facility Coordinator VThe Building/Facility Coordinator V oversees facility operations for assigned College of Engineering buildings, including maintenance, repairs, renovations, safety, security, and space management.
The role coordinates with trades, contractors, and building occupants to address needs, improve facilities, support projects, and ensure buildings remain safe and functional.
Responsibilities also include managing access systems, event support, safety programs, inspections, compliance training, hazardous materials processes, and emergency response. The position provides reliable facilities support while maintaining alignment with University, College, and department standards.The Duffield Engineering Facilities team manages all facilities operations across 14 buildings and more than 1.4 million square feet, including space planning, renovations, construction, repairs, and preventative maintenance. The team oversees major capital projects and ongoing renovations to improve reliability, reduce costs, and enhance energy efficiency. These efforts support the recruitment and retention of top faculty and students, advance research innovation, improve learning environments, and align with Duffield Engineering's long-term strategic goals.Key ResponsibilitiesOversee safe, reliable day-to-day operation of assigned building systems, infrastructure, and specialty utilities while coordinating routine maintenance activities across multiple shops and vendors.Serve as the primary point of contact for building occupants, users, contractors, and Facilities personnel regarding service requests, repairs, and facility needs.Evaluate, prioritize, and coordinate responses to building issues, including initiating work requests, obtaining approvals, tracking progress, verifying completion, and confirming billing accuracy.Manage maintenance and repair activities by coordinating with occupants, vendors, contractors, trades, and Facilities teams to ensure timely resolution of issues.Monitor building systems, equipment performance, product quality, usage, and operational needs to identify improvements and corrective actions.Maintain service request records using electronic tracking systems, databases, and other facility management tools.Coordinate office, laboratory, and equipment moves, material handling, storage, disposal, and related facility support services.Update floor plans, conduct space inventories, and assist departments with space allocation and utilization planning.Support building events through setup assistance, audio/visual equipment coordination, and maintenance of directories and signage.Identify, obtain, and maintain critical spare parts and specialized equipment needed for building operations.Provide backup support to other Facilities Coordinators within the College of Engineering.Support Facilities initiatives, including development of standard operating procedures and process improvements.Manage hazardous materials processes, including storage, transportation, waste handling, HASP/MSDS systems, and related compliance activities.What We NeedTrade/Vocational/Technical School and 4 to 6 years relevant experience or equivalent combination.Formal training in facility maintenance, engineering technology, safety compliance, or similar field(s).Good troubleshooting ability.Customer service orientation.Demonstrated record of conformance to policies and procedures.Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.Strong problem solving skills.Strong mechanical skills.Strong organizational skills.Strong communications skills.Ability to work independently with good judgement.A science or technology bachelor's degree and more than 6 years of experience in related areas.Experience working with a variety of constituents to ensure successful operation and maintenance of multi-use facilities.Demonstrated ability to manage service providers to meet maintenance and project goals.Understanding of hazardous material handling and regulatory compliance in a high technology research environment.This is a full-time (39 hours/week) endowed position that is based in Ithaca, NY and fully on-site. Core hours are Monday to Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm.
