Building InspectorConducts various inspections of buildings and structures for the Department of Development, ensuring compliance with safety codes and standards.Job duties include:Performing on-site inspections of residential and commercial/industrial buildings to ensure compliance with appropriate codes.Inspecting building construction in progress, including wiring installation and repair, foundations, crawl spaces, ventilation, insulation, structures, etc.Reviewing building plans for compliance to appropriate codes and standards.Communicating with contractors, homeowners, architects, etc. regarding code standards and compliance.Collecting evidence to assist in prosecution of code violators.Preparing and submitting inspection reports.Meeting all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards.Demonstrating regular, predictable, and punctual attendance.These duties are illustrative only and employee may perform some or all of these duties or other job-related duties as assigned.Major worker characteristics include:Knowledge of safety practices, human relations, Department of Development policies and procedures, state and national electrical and building codes.Skills in transcription, electrical installation and repair, electrical and building inspection techniques and procedures.Ability to interpret and carry out a variety of instructions in various formats, recognize unusual or threatening conditions and take appropriate action, deal with problems involving a variety of variables in unfamiliar context, apply principles to solve practical, everyday problems, define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions, recognize and apply safety warnings, understand manuals and verbal instructions, technical in nature, interpret extensive variety of technical material in books, journals and manuals, comprehend and add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, calculate fractions, decimals, and percentages, prepare meaningful, concise and accurate reports, originate complex reports, work as part of a team, demonstrate agility.Minimum class qualifications for employment include:Completion of four (4) years of high school or equivalent.Meets the Ohio Building Code (OBC) Experience Requirements for Building Inspector or Building Inspector Trainee certification classification.Meets the OBC Experience Requirements for Electrical Safety Inspector or Electrical Safety Inspector Trainee certification classification, each per 4101:7-3-01 of the Ohio Revised Code (ORC), or equivalent combination of education and experience.Additional requirements include:Must possess a valid Ohio driver's license.Must obtain interim certification within (90) days and Building Inspector Certification and Electrical Safety Inspector Certification from the Ohio Board of Building Standards within twelve (12) months of appointment and eligibility to obtain.Unusual working conditions include:The employee is exposed to, must negotiate, use, or work with or in the vicinity of floor openings, wall openings and holes, open-sided floors, platforms and runways, stairs, fixed industrial stairs, portable wood and metal ladders, fixed ladders, personal protective equipment, occupational foot protection due to potential impact of objects to the feet, medical and first aid, scaffolding, air contaminants, noisy operations or activities, occupational head protection due to potential impact to the head from objects, portable fire extinguishers, lead (including lead based paints or lead from other sources), crowds, potentially violent or emotionally distraught persons, potentially vicious animals, life threatening situations, hot, cold, wet, humid or windy weather conditions, and hazardous driving conditions.Hours - Monday – Friday 8:00AM – 5:00 PMCompensation - $31.00 - $34.00 per hour/ DOQFLSA - Non-Exempt from OvertimeBenefits - Medical, Health Savings Account County Contribution, Dental, Vision, Life & AD&D Insurance, Flexible Spending Accounts for Health & Dependent Care, OPERS Retirement with Employer Contribution of 14% (Higher for Law Enforcement), Deferred Compensation Programs, Paid Vacation & Sick Time, Paid Holidays, Employee Assistance Program, Tuition Discounts, Fitness Center DiscountsEqual Opportunity Employer Statement: The Miami County Board of Commissioners, including those agencies under other elected officials, is an equal opportunity employer and does not make employment decisions in a discriminatory manner based on race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, disabilities that can be reasonably accommodated, or veteran status.
