Bridge InspectorBridge Inspector | Hybrid | Watertown, MAIn this position, you would serve an important role in the planning and execution of structural inspections and the development of bridge load ratings. The work would involve a mix of office and field work. The ideal candidate should possess a "can-do" attitude, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and an ability to work independently as well as with a team in a dynamic, fast-paced, and fun environment.

VHB's culture emphasizes long-term career growth, employee retention, and an industry-leading work/life balance.Learn more about our Structures practice at VHB: Bridges & Structures | VHBResponsibilitiesSupport the inspection team's quality, procedures, workload, and trainingPrepare proposals for new inspection contracts with a talented marketing team.Planning and performing structural inspections of highway and railroad bridges, culverts, ancillary structures, and buildings in accordance with NHI and AREMA StandardsPerforming quality reviews of bridge inspection report narratives, sketches, photos, and basic repair and rehabilitation cost estimates.Managing inspection equipment with a sufficient budget to properly outfit inspection teams with the latest gearParticipate in the growth of the inspection practice across the VHB footprintSkills & AbilitiesAbility to work at heights, in confined spaces and adjacent to live highway and railroad trafficFamiliarity with MBTA, MassDOT, AASHTO, and AREMA inspection requirementsExcellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skillsProactive and self-motivated, with excellent attention to detail and qualityStrong organizational and time management skillsEnthusiasm to learn, seek out opportunities, and take responsibilityAbility and willingness to work overnight when required for specific access requirements on roadways and on ROW tracks.Experience with vertical lift equipment, under-bridge inspection trucks, and rope access credentials are a plusQualificationsMin 3-5 years of bridge inspection experience requiredEIT licenseB.S. in Civil Engineering (structural emphasis preferred)NHI/FHWA Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges course preferredNHI/FHWA Fracture Critical (NSTM) course preferredValid driver's licenseOur best estimate of the salary range for this position located in Boston/Watertown, MA is $92,000 -112,000.
