Bridge Design Manager – Transportation StructuresLocation: Greater Chicago Area, IllinoisA respected engineering consulting organization with a strong presence in transportation infrastructure is seeking a Bridge Design Manager to help lead and expand its structural bridge practice within Illinois.This leadership role will guide technical delivery, team development, client relationships, and business growth across bridge design, rehabilitation, and inspection programs. The selected individual will work closely with leadership to strengthen the firm's presence with state transportation agencies and other public-sector clients throughout the region.CompensationEstimated Salary Range: $150,000 – $200,000 annually (commensurate with experience)Key ResponsibilitiesPractice Leadership & Market DevelopmentResearch transportation infrastructure markets and identify strategic growth opportunities within IllinoisDevelop and maintain strong relationships with public-sector transportation agencies and consulting partnersRecruit, mentor, and develop bridge engineering staff to support practice growthSupport proposal efforts and major project pursuitsTechnical OversightProvide senior-level direction on bridge design, rehabilitation, and inspection projectsServe as Project Principal or Lead Engineer on complex structural assignmentsGuide multidisciplinary engineering teams through structural analysis and design developmentLead preparation of design drawings, calculations, and specifications for fixed and movable bridge structuresProject DeliveryManage project scope, schedule, staffing plans, and budgetsPerform senior quality assurance reviews of bridge design deliverablesOversee multiple concurrent infrastructure projectsEnsure internal quality control standards are met across assigned workTeam LeadershipMentor engineers and project managersBuild a collaborative, high-performing structural engineering teamTrack performance metrics and maintain project profitability targetsQualificationsBachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural EngineeringMaster's Degree preferredIllinois Professional Engineer (PE) license requiredStructural Engineer (SE) license strongly preferred12+ years of bridge engineering experienceExtensive knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design SpecificationsDemonstrated experience working with state transportation agencies and public infrastructure programsProven leadership in project delivery and team developmentAdditional SkillsStrong client relationship and business development abilitiesAbility to manage project budgets and schedules effectivelyExcellent communication and organizational skillsStrong interpersonal leadership abilitiesWork Authorization: Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.
