Breastfeeding Peer Counselor

Gives basic breastfeeding information, encouragement, and support to Women, Infant and Children Program (WIC) pregnant and breastfeeding mothers. Essential duties include attending breastfeeding training classes, counseling WIC pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, teaching breastfeeding classes, providing leadership with support groups, keeping accurate records, and maintaining confidentiality of all client records.

Qualifications include completion of high school or GED, having breastfed at least one baby, previous or current participation in the WIC Program, and access to personal transportation. A valid Indiana driver's license is required. Office equipment and proper telephone etiquette, current lactation practices and terminology, effective time management skills, independent work capability, pleasant communication skills, flexibility to changing work duties, and operating office equipment especially computers are also required. Bilingual is preferred.
