Bookkeeper – Construction / Union Payroll

Midtown Manhattan | Fully Onsite | Up to $75K Base

A mid-sized construction company is seeking an experienced Bookkeeper to manage the full scope of union payroll operations, reporting, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer full-cycle weekly union payroll — approximately 35 field employees and 8 corporate employees, with gross payroll exceeding $2.2M per quarter
• Set up and maintain pay tables in Sage 300
• Process and reconcile union remittances, certified payroll, and prevailing wage reports
• Manage workers' compensation reporting/claims, payroll audits, and compliance reporting (OSHA, EEOC, OCIP/CCIP)
• Ensure compliance with NYS unemployment and payroll tax regulations; process and remit payroll taxes
• Handle job costing, payroll reconciliations, and identify/correct discrepancies within Sage 300
• Prepare union reporting and external/government reporting as required
• Generate and format Excel reports (tables, payroll packages, data analysis)
• Support payroll system transition (ADP Workforce Now experience a plus)
• Manage payroll wrap-up/year-end processes, garnishments, and benefit remittances
• Provide managerial and administrative oversight of the payroll function
• Collaborate with leadership on payroll compliance matters

Qualifications

• 3+ years of construction bookkeeping experience
• Strong, hands-on certified payroll reporting experience
• Union payroll experience at a level comparable to construction industry standards
• Hands-on experience with Sage 300 or Timberline
• Exceptional attention to detail, analytical mindset, and ability to work independently
