This role is critical to ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient steam and heating operations in compliance with applicable codes, safety standards, and ERG/client requirements. This full-time position is at the Naval Support Facility (NSF) Indian Head.
Indian Head, Maryland, is approximately 30 miles from Washington, D.C.; 25 miles from Alexandria, Virginia; and 60 miles from Fredericksburg, Virginia.Job Description:Operate, monitor, and maintain boiler systems, including associated pumps, valves, piping, and control systemsPerform routine inspections, testing, and preventive maintenance to ensure boilers operate safely and efficientlyTroubleshoot, diagnose, and repair boiler and auxiliary system issuesEnsure plant operations comply with OSHA, EPA, state, and local regulations, as well as site-specific safety requirementsCoordinate with maintenance teams, supervisors, and facility staff to support overall plant operationsQualifications and Skills:At least 2 years of HVAC experienceHigh school diploma or equivalent; associate degree in facilities maintenance, engineering, or a related field is preferredExperience working in federal or government facilities is preferredValid boiler operator or boiler technician certification/license, as required by the state or facilityStrong working knowledge of boiler operations, controls, and safety systemsAbility to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and operating proceduresExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to work independently and as part of a teamThis position will require a pre-employment physical examThis position requires lifting objects weighing up to 100 poundsWork may be performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g., fumes, dust, noise, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals)You may be required to participate in medical surveillance programsMust be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, and reach during shiftsMust be able to use carts, dollies, hand trucks, and other gear to move itemsMust be able to safely climb and descend ladders, stairways, scaffolding, and elevated work platforms and perform work at heights up to and exceeding 30 feetMust be able to perform work above shoulder level, including reaching, lifting, and manipulating tools and materials overheadMust currently hold or be able to obtain a Department of Defense Secret-level security clearanceMust be a U.S. citizen, as this position is not eligible for Limited Access AuthorizationsEmployees must maintain the ability to safely perform these essential functions, with or without reasonable accommodation, as a condition of employment.
