Boiler Operator - Utilities Plant

Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain boilers and associated equipment in a safe and efficient manner
- Monitor boiler operations, including temperature, pressure, and fuel levels
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as cleaning, lubricating, and adjusting equipment
- Troubleshoot and repair boiler malfunctions or breakdowns
- Conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance with safety regulations
- Maintain accurate records of boiler operations, maintenance activities, and repairs
- Coordinate with other departments to ensure proper operation of equipment
- Provide excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders
Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Boiler Operator or in a related field
• Strong mechanical knowledge and aptitude
• Familiarity with hydraulics, schematics, and industrial mechanics
• Knowledge of HVAC/R systems is a plus
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
• Demonstrated skills/abilities in: collaborations, teamwork and problem-solving to achieve goals; verbal communication and Listening
• Prior Navy experience in operations of steam plants is a plus

Required License or Certification:

• Valid NC Driver's License

Note: This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. The employee may be required to perform other duties as assigned. **The Heating Plant Operates 24 hours a day, 365 days/year. This position requires either 1st, 2nd shift schedule (4pm-12mid) or 3rd shift schedule 12mid-8am). 8-hour shifts will be determined by plant supervisor; 1/2 lunch break taken inside the plant; works overtime on short notice; may be required to work different shift with a 24-hour notice if emergencies arise; also, must respond to emergency call backs. (Must be flexible with schedule, expected to sometimes work 24 hours one week 60 the next week.)
