Boiler OperatorUnder general supervision from the MEP Superintendent, Stationary Engineer, higher-level supervisor, the Boiler Operator monitors high pressure boiler equipment, inspects, cleans, maintains, repairs boiler equipment & performs related plumbing & steam work.Operates high pressure boiler, pumps, and related equipment (i.e., carrying pressure exceeding 15 pounds per square inch) and maintains log.Monitors heat plant reading gauges and checks general welfare of plant. Oversees power consumption meters. Starts, synchronizes, switches, and shuts down equipment as needed.

Adjusts and observes operation of plant equipment.Inspects, cleans, maintains, performs minor repairs & preventative maintenance on high pressure boilers, pumps, & related equipmentPerforms steam fitting & plumbing duties as related to boiler maintenance.Performs water testing, chemical treatment and documentation related to campus systems & equipmentPerforms miscellaneous tasks (i.e., keeps boiler room clean, makes inspection rounds).May be required to work on a rotating schedule & HolidaysPerform related duties based on departmental needExperience:Minimum one-year related experience requiredEducation:High school diploma or GED requiredLicensed as Ohio high-pressure boiler operatorMust have and maintain a valid driver's license and be insurable under the University's insuranceEssential Competencies:Knowledge of basic science and scientific methodsKnowledge of basic mathematical skillsKnowledge of basic reading skillsAbility to carry out verbal and/or written instructionsAbility to effectively communicate, verbally and writtenDetailed-oriented and highly accurateAbility to work in a high stress, fast paced, changing environmentAbility to work effectively in a team environmentAbility to interact effectively with students, faculty and/or staff or the public and represent BGSU appropriatelyKnowledge of basic computer skillsKnowledge of computer skills, such as MS Office, presentations, spreadsheets and/or database entry/queryAbility to query, run reports, and modify data in financial system(s)Ability to access and maintain document imaging systems including scanning and filing documentsAbility to operate computers and peripheral equipment such as printers and/or tape and disk drivesAbility to draft office correspondence
